Dire Flame Skunk

Dire flame skunks are oft-mocked legendary beasts.

Personality

Dire flame skunks love to argue and are unusually aggressive with words and opinions in social settings, bullying other creatures with the threat of embarrassing immolation. Most creatures don't give them the chance to get into social settings however, which causes a lot of dire flame skunks to holler and complain while wandering. The risk of drawing attention to themselves is often offset by their dangerous attributes.

Physical Description

A dire flame skunk looks much like a scaled-up version of a striped skunk with different coloration. Most dire flame skunks possess red fur with white stripes of warning coloration. Though some have orange, yellow or maroon fur. Whatever the color, dire flame skunk fur is incredibly dense, making it difficult for attackers to land blows upon them.

They have sharp teeth for biting and sharp claws for digging. When threatened, a dire flame skunk often raises its tail as a warning threat. When one might be expecting a foul return, there's often fire instead.

Relations

Those that can put up with a dire flame skunk's annoying attributes often find them to be humorous, for their other traits make them a ludicrous creature in nearly all situations compounded by their habit of saying outrageous things.

Alignment

Because dire flame skunks often have to steal to survive or take care of pesky adventurers attempting to make a name for themselves, they tend toward chaotic alignments. Most aren't unnecessarily cruel, just a bit rude with bad manners.

Lands

Dire flame skunks prefer dense forests and forest edges along plains. They often dig burrows with their claws. When they intrude upon humanoid lands, its generally to attack apiaries, as dire flame skunks covet honey and bees as food. Farmers in general find them a nuisance since they get into livestock feed and efforts made to thwart a dire flame skunk's intrusion often leads to heavy property damage by way of fire.

Occasionally humanoids and dire flame skunks can negotiate deals that serve as mutually beneficial when territories overlap. Usually, this means trading something to the dire flame skunks (such as food) in exchange for a service or task.

Religion

These creatures have no religion themselves and any devout individual is purely on a case-by-case basis.

Language

Dire flame skunks speak Common, often loudly and with profuse exaggerations. They are not known to write or keep records.

Names

Dire flame skunks often take names based on what local villagers call them to identify them to authorities, though some have been known to declare themselves by grandiose names to satisfy their own egos.

Recommended Traits

Taking levels in Mythic Beast Paragon (3.5e Racial Paragon Class) is almost a must. For flavor, it is recommended to take:
