Ur'Bosan Ogre

The Ogres of Ur'Bos

Personality

Ogres tend to live simple lives depending on their station in society. They prefer huge bludgeoning weapons and hide loincloths (usually tiger-striped). They are also shown to really love their alcohol.

Physical Description

Ur'Bosan Ogres are quite tall and stocky. They tend to be well muscled and are prone to getting fat. Ogre eyes are always one of the colors of the rainbow, or a shade thereof. Skin tones include various shades of green, brown, red, blue, and yellow. Possible hair colors are black, white, brown, and orange. About one in ten ogres only have canine teeth or possess tusks.

Pregnancy in ogres last 22 months, and an ogre child is quite small and frail in comparison to an adult. An ogre child might seem slow, but their brain simply requires longer to reach maturity.

Ogres recover from injuries at an extraordinary rate, recovering from broken bones and other major injuries in hours. This combined with their natural durability and fortitude means, that they are incredibly difficult to put down permanently and have a... skewed sense of danger.

They are humanoids, although some might describe them as a gorilla's upper half attached to a bear's lower half and shaved.

Ogres can breed with other races, and a child of an ogre and a non-ogre is always an Orc (the name meaning ogre spawn).

Relations

Ogres get along with most races, but have a special animosity for centaurs. Centaurs enslaved the ogres, and it is only recently that they successfully freed themselves. Ogre and elves have a strange relationship, in that they were both enslaved by centaurs but despite this are not on amiable terms. Mostly due to the widespread cult of Inix.

Lands

Ogres prefer to live in wide open spaces. They live in feudal city states, the largest and most powerful of these being the city of Ur. Ogre culture is a caste system with the warrior nobles at the top.

Ogre society is highly militaristic, and as soon as they founded their first city after breaking away from the 'taurs, they went to war. It is seen as an honor and a duty, and military rank is synonymous with social rank, with few exceptions. The training of Ogre soldiers is downright brutal and often involves being injured to the point where other races would be crippled for life.

Society is divided into Citizens of Ur (Ur'Kree'Gar'Rin) and Peasants (Ur'Kree'Rin). Peasants get a rough lot in life unless they are skilled enough to enter the Ur'Kree'Tal'Rin, a caste that consists of those who have not served time in the Ursan military, but are still valued higher than peasants due to their skill at a trade or education (smiths, craftsmen, engineers, scholars, teachers).

The Highest Caste are the Knights of Ur. Knights of Ur are required to attain a rank of captain (leader of 50 to 200 soldiers), graduate from the Ursan Military Academy, and obey the Ursan Chivalric Code of Conduct (similar to the European knights code and bushido).

Ur'Bosan Ogre government is a feudal monarchy, with a senate making or approving laws. In the senate, only Citizens can vote, and various laws exist pertaining to who may speak and when. While all Cititzens have a vote in the senate, Knights receive three votes, and Lords (Rulers of an Ursan City State) have 10. Any Citizen can demand Trial by Combat and Knights may request Trial by Geas (going on a quest or errand) in place of a formal trial.

The castes have divisions within themselves, but those are too numerous to go over here.

Ogres value their children very highly due to their somewhat rarity.

Religion

The Ogres worship the gods of their people, many of whom were mortal before ascending. The most highly revered god, is Uruk the Unifier, Breaker of Chains, the Stone Sword, Slayer of the Behemoth, Founder of Ur, First King. He was a mortal who lead the rebellion and eventual secession from the Tor'Rin empire.

The next most important religious figure is Inix. Inix preaches about ogre superiority, and vengeance for the wrongs done to the ogre people. Inix and her cult teaches that all other races are barely fit to be slaves or livestock to the ogre race and should be used as such. Inix and Uruk were lovers until her beliefs came to light, after his best friend, an elf named Valara, commited suicide while crying out Inix's name. an investigation into the matter revealed that Inix had driven herself into a mad hatred for Valara (who had given birth to Uruk's baby several years prior to their marriage) and kidnapped her and her entire Tribe. Valara had been forced to watch as unspeakable things were done to her family and friends before they were butchered and cooked like common farm animals. Inix was put to death, but reappeared no less than a dozen times, killed each time by Uruk, until her final death at the hands of Skara of the Blackglass, the daughter of Uruk and Valara's daughter and Uruk and Inix's son.

Ogre religion is polytheistic and has gods such as Enma the guardian of the dead, and Ukko the goddess of storms.

Language

The ogre people spoke many tongues before Unification, but now speak Giant, Orc, and the Common trade tongue. Worshippers of Inix the Betrayer, also tend to learn Abyssal.

Names

Ogre names are always two syllables and they do not have family names. They often pick up names from their exploits and have the names son of and daughter of their parents when born. Unclaimed bastards are child of (place of birth/region).
