A glistening black sheen begins to move over the slick damp floor your way. Be careful with your fire.

A fungus-based ooze which seems to have appeared after humanoids began to mine and extract crude oil, oilslick oozes look very much like puddles of oil. They can be difficult to detect, especially if they begin to infest areas where oil slicks may be expected. They devour organic creatures, rapidly decaying them into crude oil which they add to their mass. Gnomes have tried to harvest the oilslick oozes as a way to establish renewable oil supplies, but the oozes are difficult to handle and it has resulted in more than one industrial accident.

Oilslick oozes are very flammable, but they are attracted to sources of heat. This is because while fire does harm them to a point, it is also how they reproduce. When an oilslick ooze becomes large enough it willingly seeks to ignite itself, so that its spores may bubble up and be carried into the air on plumes of smoke. Sometimes it willingly even explodes to spread its spores as far as it can.

Oilslick ooze puddles vary in sizes, but usually at least 6-8 feet in diameter and very thin. When in movement it bunches up and increases in depths, forming a iridescent black disc.

Combat

Oilslick oozes are simple creatures, and they seem to be attracted to sources of heat. Living creatures are obvious sources, but they can be distracted by actual fire sources. They remain close, but when they are sufficiently large they sometimes willingly jump into the flames in order to spread their spores.

Explode (Ex): As a full-attack action the oilslick ooze can self-destruct, dealing 5d6 points of fire damage to all creatures in a 10 ft radius, with a DC 19 Reflex save for half. If it is on fire, it deals 10d6 fire damage instead. The save DC is Constitution based.

Flammable Frenzy (Ex): If an oilslick ooze takes at least 1 point of fire damage it immediately catches on fire. It takes no damage for being on fire (though it takes damage from the original fire attack), it comes under the effect of haste, an extra move action each round, and it gains +1d6 fire damage on its attacks. It also releases smoke, giving it 20% concealment. It remains on fire until it is submerged in water, fails a save against a [Water] effect, or 10 minutes have passed.

Oil Bomb (Ex): The oilslick ooze can make a ranged touch attack with a 10 ft range increment, throwing a ball of oil which acts as an alchemical splash weapon. It does no damage, but the struck creature automatically gains the oil slick status, no save, and all creatures within a 5 ft radius splash must make a Reflex save (DC 19) or also be covered in oil. The oilslick ooze uses its Strength for ranged attack rolls.

If the oilslick ooze is on fire, the oil bombs do 5d6 fire damage, with 5 splash damage. The creatures are covered in oil slick, but do not continue burning (though they might explode with a subsequent attack).

Oil Slick (Ex): Whenever the oilslick ooze hits with its slam attack, the creature must make a DC 19 Reflex save or be covered in oil. They gain +10 to Escape Artist checks, but are very flammable. If they take even 1 point of fire damage they explode (no save) for 5d6 points of fire damage. The oil slick condition ends when they spend at least 1 round fully submerged in water to clean the oil off or they explode. The save DC is Constitution based.

Physical Resistance (Ex): Oilslick oozes take half damage from all physical sources of damage.

Slime Trail (Ex): Everywhere the oilslick ooze travels leaves a trail of oil behind. It leaves the effect of grease (DC 19) in any place it has moved, and within 5 ft of the ooze itself, which remains for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution based.

If the oilslick ooze is on fire, the slime trail is also on fire and deals 1d6 fire damage to any creature passing through or standing within it. Creatures must make a DC 15 Reflex save or catch on fire.

Water Repel (Ex): Oilslick oozes repel water. They do not count as watery creatures for the purposes of spells and effects, and they are immune to all [Water] spells and effects. They can walk on water and are very buoyant, unable to sink unless forced.

Skills: Oilslick oozes gain a +15 racial bonus on Disguise checks to appear as a puddle of oil when unmoving.
