A pair of omnigoggles.

These Aperture Magic manufactured goggles are inlaid in a small, but complex magical device containing an array of lens fixtures and light filters, that is strapped in front of the face and translates optical input to a better suited form. When worn over the eyes, the wearer can choose between an assortment of different vision modes with the press of a button on a small panel at the side. Omnigoggles have a zoom function ranging from ×2 to ×10, allowing the user to make Spot checks at range at a penalty of -1 per (10 × zoom multiplier) feet. Spotting at range with an active zoom takes up a full-round action.

Omnigoggles have an ability called 'synchrovision', enabling them to remotely communicate visual streams to other omnigoggles. Up to four omnigoggles may be linked this way, and every user will receive a windowed readout of the three other streams at the right side of their vision, allowing all four users to see what the other three users see. Synchrovision can be used in conjunction with every vision mode, and may be turned off. A pair of omnigoggles with its synchrovision off may still stream visual input to omnigoggles with their synchrovision active. Active synchrovision provides a distraction whilst making Spot checks, causing the wearer to make them at a -5 penalty.

Vision Modes[edit]

Only one vision mode may be active at a time.

  • Night Vision: The wearer has darkvision out to 120 feet. This darkvision has a greenish hue, instead of the usual greytones.
  • Thermal Imaging: The wearer has thermal imaging out to 120 feet. This functions as a detect heat spell and grants the wearer the resulting bonuses to Spot checks involving such sources.
  • Arcane Sight: The wearer has arcane sight, as per the spell, out to 120 feet.
  • Permeavision: The wearer has permeavision out to 20 feet. Permeavision is a mixture of X-ray vision and spectrovision. X-ray vision allows the viewer to perceive in great detail through solid objects, with the viewer seeing as if he were looking at something in normal light even if there is no illumination. X-ray vision can penetrate up to 1 foot of mineral or stone, 1 inch of common metals or 3 feet of wood or earth. Spectrovision allows for detection of substance density and spaces within solid matter, but unlike X-ray vision it cannot distinguish the general shape of objects. A thin sheet of lead blocks permeavision.

Prerequisites: CL 11th; Craft Wondrous Item; arcane sight, darkvision, detect heat, scrying, true seeing; Market price 30,000 gp; 15,000 gp + 1,200 XP.
