Pain-Sensitive

Pain really, really bothers you... much more than it bothers most people.

Prerequisite: Must be able to feel pain (which excludes most undead and constructs)

Effect: Whenever you take damage, you must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC = 10 + ½ damage taken (or ¼ damage taken if the damage is continuous, such as acid arrow)) or suffer like a total wuss, taking a −2 penalty on attack rolls and ability checks (including skill checks), and half that penalty to save DCs and non-Fortitude saving throws. If you lose 20% or more of your current hit points or take nonlethal damage equal to 20% of your current hit points from a single attack or other such discrete event (such as a fall or a round’s worth of exposure to a hazardous material such as lava), these penalties are increased by 1, to a maximum penalty of −6 to attack rolls and ability checks (−3 to save DCs and non-Fortitude saving throws) if you are unfortunate enough to lose 80% or more of your hit points all at once. These penalties last for 5 minutes or until you are restored to full hp and no nonlethal damage, whichever comes first. If you take damage and fail your Fortitude save when you are already suffering penalties from this flaw, the duration of the penalties resets to 5 minutes, but their severity does not change unless the new penalties are worse than the previous penalties.

When you are required to make a Concentration check as a result of taking damage, the damage is considered to be 20% greater than its actual amount (rounded down) for the purpose of determining the DC of the check (so, for example, taking 5 damage would require a DC 16 check instead of a DC 15 check). You make Concentration checks before the Fortitude save demanded by this flaw.

If you are subjected to a pain-based effect other than the effects of taking damage with this flaw (such as wrack[1] or just about anything a tormentor does), you take a −2 penalty to your save against that effect, any conditions it inflicts are worsened by 1 step (for example, an effect that would sicken you makes you nauseated), and any penalties the condition inflicts are made 50% more severe, rounded down (for instance, 12 damage becomes 18, and a −2 penalty becomes a −3 penalty). If a pain effect cannot be made any worse in this manner (such as if it flat-out kills you), you instead take a −4 penalty on your save against it.

Benefit: Any bonus feat for which you meet the prerequisites.
