Bardic Music Full

Player

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
—Jaques Rickman, Human Aristocrat, I Like It!, Billiard Pikewaggle

Some Bards are great singers, some virtuoso with an instrument, and some even fabulous dancers. The Player is an actor beyond compare.

Becoming a Player

"I'll give it two tentacles up!"
—Eager Robert Roeper, Roper critic

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Player.

Variable Saves: At first and third level, choose between Reflex and Will. That save progression becomes Good. Once chosen, this cannot be changed.

Specialization: At first and third level, the Player chooses an area of thespian expertise. They're quite good at their chosen area. If you have another type of specialization (like Pulp, Mystery, Improvization, or whatever) in mind, talk things out with the DM or whatever.

Comedy (Ex): Laughter may not always be the best medicine, but it can raise spirits. You can make a Perform (acting) or Perform (comedy) check as a standard action to negate a morale penalty. The DC is equal to 5 times the penalty (5 for -1, 10 for -2, 15 for -3, and so on).

Musical (Ex): The combination of song and scene are more effective than one or the other alone. The bonuses you give from your Bardic Performance (typically from Inspire Competence or Inspire Courage) are increased by 1.

Romance (Sp): By using a Bardic Performance, the Player can laud and serenade someone. This has the effects of charm person (although it can affect any creature of any similar type to the Player). The Player can only have a single creature romanced at a time.

Tragedy (Su): A tragic scene can pull the heartstrings of even the most stonefaced. The Player can use Inspire Fear and Inspire Misery. These are like Inspire Courage and Inspire Competence, but they give morale penalties instead of bonuses and affect enemies instead of allies. Inspire Fear and Inspire Misery grant saves (Charisma based).

Bardic Progression: Levels in Player stack with bard's to determine the number of bardic music uses per day, which bardic music you can use, and one's bard level for determining the effects of certain bardic music abilities.

Skill Focus: At second level, the Player gets Skill Focus (Perform (Acting)) as a bonus feat.

Bonus Feat: At second and fourth level, the Player gets a bonus feat based on the specialization chosen, even if they don't meet the prerequisites. If they already have the listed feat, they get the bonus feat of the next most applicable performance type for the character.

Comedy Improved Feint

Musical Music of the Gods

Romance Contagious Success

Tragedy Drop Dead and Unfinished Business

Quick Change (Ex): A second level Player is used to changing costumes between scenes, and takes no longer than 1 minute to put on a disguise or don or remove armor.

Soliloquy (Su): At any point starting at level 3, a Player can declare they're giving a soliloquy. As long as the Player does nothing more in a round than speak or move 10' or less, all other creatures treat it as invisible and silent. This is a Mind Affecting effect. A Musical Player may sing instead of speak, but may not use Bardic Music or similar class features during a soliloquy.

Additionally, a Player may give a death speech upon being killed. This allows them to speak, but take no other actions, for one minute after they are killed by any effect - including disintegration or having their soul stolen. Should they choose to do this, they cannot be healed and are dead for real and can't be brought back by revivify or similar effects.

Celebrity: A level 4 Player is quite well known. They get the Celebrity feat as a bonus feat, even if they don't meet the prerequisites (unlikely though that is).

Master Thespian: A level 5 Player is a Master Thespian and a legend in their trade. They choose one of the options below from the specializations they selected. Additionally they get a +2 to Perform (acting) checks that match that specialization because why not.

Infinite Jest (Comedy) (Su): When the Player spends a Bardic Performance to Fascinate, there is no limit to the amount of HD that can be effected and no maximum duration. The Player can just keep amusing people as long as desired. Eventually pesky things such as eating, drinking, and sleep may get in the way, but that's what props are for, isn't it?

Chorus Line (Musical) (Su): The Player can start a song with an inspiring chorus that other creatures instinctively know and can follow along with. When the Player starts a Bardic performance, any number of allies in range can join in the performance (taking the same actions as the Player) and extend the range of the performance. Creatures joining in the chorus count as a Bard of half of the Player's character level with max ranks in Perform for the purposes of this effect.

Legendary Romantic (Romance) (Sp): When the Player romances a creature, they may continue to romance their target as the same type of action as maintaining a Bardic Performance. While they do, the creature is dominated instead of charmed, can trade places with the Player as an immediate action when adjacent, and the Player is under a shield other effect with the target as the other. Truly, love is cruel.

Body Double (Tragedy) (Su): Once per day when the Player would die for whatever reason, they may instead fake their death. At any point at least one hour after they do, the Player may return "to life" as if affected by raise dead. Their body does not need to be intact for this, as it was just a convincing prop all along. They can choose to return to life either at the spot they died or at a spot the DM determines is narratively appropriate (the bar the party is in, the chambers of the evil king, a locked vault, etc). The negative level goes away after 24 hours, and you cannot fake your death again until it is removed.

Player Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (Local) can research Player to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (Local)
DC Result
11 Some actors are *really* good. They're called Players. Like in a show.
16 Players have types of shows they specialize in.
21 The very best Players are accepted as the Masters of their field. Feel free to give a couple examples here, since any Player with a Master Specialization also has the Celebrity feat.
26 If this level of success is reached, give whatever other information (like the specializations) about any notable Player. Given the actually notable ones are almost all Celebrities, you may as well leave open the option to know about any they want.
