A respected and prestigious schools housed far away from civilization, the Polybius Academy of Magical Studies is a quiet place for those willing to learn about metamagic. There the students of the art are free to study and learn in peace. The Academy is open to all type of magic, be it arcane or divine and specialize in the application of metamagic. While the application fee and prerequisites are steep, the material provided there is rich. 

=== Lore ===

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (history) can research the '' Polybius Academy of Magical Studies'' to learn more about it.  When a character succeeds on a skill check, the following lore is revealed, including the information from lower DCs.

:''DC 10:'' The '' Polybius Academy of Magical Studies'' was funded by freethinking scholars about 300 years ago, the academy quickly became famous for it material on metamagic.

:''DC 15:'' Those who manage to enter will find a difficult environment where many students vi for the attention of a few masters. 

:''DC 20:'' The time require to absorb the school's material is surprisingly short, then the student is expected to write a thesis and contribute in a meaningful way to the school's library. 

=== Description ===

The Polybius Academy of Magical Studies is a large structure made of wood and stone, it stand mighty in the middle of an island which is itself in the middle of a lake. It look much like a manor, is comfortable and almost every room is filled with bookcases which are themselves full. The manor possess multiple studies room and bedrooms for the masters, the students live all together in a common room. The manor has two floor and a basement with two wings each, it a somewhat confusing place to navigate for new arrivals.

=== Prerequisite ===

A character who wishes to study at the Academy must meet the minimum standard of being able to cast 3rd level spell or higher and must possess at least a single [Metamagic] feat. Then the admission fee (cost of the magical location) must be paid in full. 

=== Location Activation ===

The studies at the Academy require a minimum of 3 weeks, at the end of each week a [[SRD:Spellcraft Skill|Spellcraft]] is required to advance to the next. The DC for the first week is 15, the second is 20 and the third is 25. Since of the high stress environment, it is impossible to take 10 on these checks. If a character fail three times in a row or act violently toward the staff or students, they are expelled, although in the former case they may try again later by repaying the admission fee.

Once the three weeks are completed, the character is expected to write a thesis and submit it to the approval board. If the character legitimately completed their studies the activation of the magical location is completed whether the thesis is accepted or not. If the thesis is accepted the student may also join the school proper and become a member, this does not allow for further activation of the magical location.

=== Recharge ===

The Academy only take up to 6 students at any time, once a student succeeded or is expelled it place will be offered within 2 weeks to a new arrival.

=== Special Ability ===

A character who complete their studies at the academy and succeed on their final exam are able to glean much practical talents from their studies. The knowledge and mastery of magic granted by the Academy is incredible and last permanently, however a character may only benefits from the Academy's knowledge once.
