Adapted from the rules given in the Rune Scribe, described in the Unearthed Arcana article Publication:UA Rune Magic Prestige Class by Wizards of the Coast.

A Prestige class is a normal 5th edition class, with some restrictions:

  • It can only be chosen as part of multiclassing.
  • A character cannot start on the class until its character level is 3 (some prestige classes require a higher level).
  • The class has prerequisites (ability scores, proficiencies, etc.)
  • Requires a character to complete some quest and are recognized and acceptance by an NPC who is of the same prestige class.
