Homer's brief description in the Iliad Icon External Link.svg[6] is the earliest surviving literary reference: "a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle,[7] and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire."[8]

 [SRD3 OGL] [9]
A chimera is about 5 feet tall at the shoulder, nearly 10 feet long, and weighs about 4,000 pounds. A chimera’s dragon head might be black, blue, green, red, or white.

Chimeras can speak Draconic but seldom bother to do so, except when they risk dying to more powerful creatures.
