All monstrous spiders are aggressive predators that use their [[SRD:Poison|poison]]ous bites to subdue or kill prey.[[Type::Vermin| ]]

Monstrous spiders come in two general types: hunters and [[SRD:Web|web]]-spinners. Hunters rove about, while [[SRD:Web|web]]-spinners usually attempt to trap prey. Hunting spiders can spin [[SRD:Web|web]]s to use as lairs, but cannot use their [[SRD:Web|web]]s as weapons the way [[SRD:Web|web]]-spinners can. A hunting spider has a base land speed 10 feet faster than the figures given in the statistics blocks.

Attempts to escape or burst the [[SRD:Web|web]]bing gain a +5 bonus if the trapped creature has something to walk on or grab while pulling free.
