5e Spell Sanguine Siphon
1st-level necromancy
Casting Time: 1 Reaction, taken when a living creature you can see within 30ft takes damage
Range: 30ft
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Casters: Druid, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock

Using your reaction, you capitalize on harm done to a living creature in order to restore your own essence. This spell has no effect if the damaged creature is an undead or a construct.

You regain hit points equal to the amount of damage dealt to the target, up to a maximum number of hit points equal to 5 + your spellcasting ability modifier. The number of hit points regained through use of this spell cannot exceed the amount of damage dealt by the triggering effect.

  • For example, the owlbear your party is fighting just suffered 23 points of damage from a greatsword attack. You, a Wis 17 Druid, could cast this spell at 2nd level to regain 13 of these hit points for yourself, but the other 10 would be lost unless you cast this spell from a slot of 4th level or higher.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the maximum number of hit points you can regain increases by 5 for each slot level above 1st.
