Soul of Erebos

You see... the Comforting Shadow and the Dark Chaos are one and the same.
—Eleutheria, tiefling soul of Erebos, from the Walker in the Shadows

Erebos is a demiplane, located where the plane of Limbo overlaps with the Plane of Shadow, creating a dark and chaotic zone, home to fiends and other extraplanar creatures. The very essence of this demiplane is vivid enough to spawn its inhabitants and, through them, make contact with other worlds, leaving traces of itself in other creatures.

Thus, the souls of Erebos are born. They are a group of meldshapers that revere the plane of Erebos, as it is together a place and a living thing, that provides them with the power of souls, power that is, in return, fueled by the very souls of the members of the group when they die. Tieflings born with an hint of the shadow of the fiends of Erebos were originally the first souls of Erebos, but eventually the plane was discovered by scholars and travelers of other races and they managed to obtain the same power through its knowledge.

The souls of Erebos fight for their individuality and look forward to become united with Erebos, that they call the Comforting Shadow, as it speaks sweet words to them in the night. To others their power may be borderline blaspheme, and many followers of deities of light call it the Dark Chaos (a name adopted also by the souls of Erebos). Erebos is of duplicitous nature as it is soft for these kindred souls, but nevertheless chaotic and emotional, especially in regards to those that don't accept its gift.

Becoming a Soul of Erebos

Most of the souls of Erebos are incarnates, but other meldshapers may be attracted by these class, especially if not interested in melee combat. The most important characteristics for a soul of Erebos are Constitution and Wisdom, as for any good meldshaper. Beside those, the class offers a good combination of skills, especially toward stealth approach, so Dexterity and Intelligence are welcome. Charisma may be useful for a party face, while Strength may be overlooked.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the soul of Erebos.

Meldshaping: At each soul of Erebos level, you increase your meldshaper level, the number of soulmelds you can shape, the number of chakra binds you can create, new tiers of chakra binds and your essentia pool as if you had gained a level in a meldshaping class to which you belonged prior to gaining the sapphire hierarch level. If you had more than one meldshaping class before becoming a soul of erebos, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining your essentia pool, meldshaper level, and the number of soulmelds and chakra binds available.

Shadowsoul: At 1st level you increase the DC of every soulmeld with the Chaos or Darkness descriptor you use by 1. It increases to +2 at 3rd level and to +3 at 5th level. A soulmeld with both the descriptor gains the bonus as if it had just one.

In addition you gain 1 extra essentia point from your shadow, 2 when in shadowy illumination and 3 in total darkness (these extra points don't stack with each other). These are called shadowpoints.

Vessel of the Dark Chaos (Su): Starting from the 1st level you may invest essentia points into this class feature. You may invest up to 5 points as a swift action, and remove them whenever you please. When essentia points are invested in this feature you may form, as a move action, one dark orb per essentia invested from shadows. These orbs remain until you remove essentia or until you throw them. You may throw them as ranged touch attack with range of 30 feet + 10 feet (9 meters +3 meters) per two essentia points invested. You may throw one orb as a swift action, up to three as a move action or up to five as a standard action. You may divide the orbs against multiple targets or hit the same target with multiple orbs. Each orb inflicts 1d8 of damage and is treated as a Chaos and Darkness effect. In addition, enemies hit must make a Will save (DC is 10 + essentia points invested + Wisdom modifier + number of dark orbs hitting the same target) or receive a -3 penalty to attacks, saves and skill rolls that lasts one round per each dark orb hitting (multiple uses in different rounds don't stack and multiple orbs hitting the same target in one round don't require multiple saves).

Treat this feature as a soulmeld whenever beneficial (such as to benefit from the shadowsoul feature). Your meldshaper level is your caster level for any purpose.

You may never shape soulmelds with the Light descriptor.

Dark Expanded Soulmeld Capacity (Ex): At 2nd level your soulmelds capacity increases by 1 while in shadowy illumination and by 2 in complete darkness. You may not use this feature in natural or magical daylight, eventually removing the added essentia points. This expanded capacity stacks with other similar features.

Comforting Shadow (Su): By 3rd level you gain the ability to rest quicker and more effectively. Once per day you may invest essentia in this feature to quicken by one hour per essentia point invested the time to sleep or rest you would need to regain health, fatigueness or exhaustion and to shape your soulmelds. In addition you may quicken the time needed to regain hit points and cure ability damage or burn. Per every two essentia points invested in this feature your time sleeping or resting count as if you slept or rested one additional time (so with two points invested you would regain double the normal hit points and ability damage). You may invest essentia (up to 5 points) in this feature at any time, but those points remain invested for 24 hours.

Adaptation to Erebos (Ex): By level 4th you gain cold resistance 5, or your existing resistance increases by 5. You also gain +4 on saving throws against effects with the Chaos or Darkness descriptors, and you avoid any harmful planar effect of the Plane of Shadow and of the Limbo.

Shadow Chakra: At level 5th you may shape an additional soulmeld, above your normal limit, which you may bound to your special shadow chakra. You may treat this chakra as any other chakra you may bind, for that soulmeld, even if you have already bound a soulmeld to the same chakra. This soulmeld gains the Darkness descriptor, if it still hasn't it.

Ex-Souls of Erebos

Those who become non-chaotic lose access to their class feature (except for the meldshaping progression) and may not advance in the class, until they return chaotic.

Sample Encounter: Eleutheria of Erebos is a tiefling incarnate, with dark blue skin and blonde hair, lacking the typical horns and demonic tail. She traces her heritage directly to some fiend on Erebos, or to the Shadow itself. She's travelling the planes in search for an answer and to locate Erebos, the elusive plane. Incindentally, she accumulates pages and pages of knowledge, as her librarian godfather taught her to, while adventuring, and with particular love for tales of heroes and myths which she reads for long before sleeping.
