The black wind howls as lightning flashes briefly illuminate the large and terrifying visage of a dragon descending from the clouds wreathed in smoke and fury.

Kings of the sky and lords of the storm, these dragons are a rare and powerful breed on par with the great red dragons. They are residents of flying islands, undersea ruins, and storm and cloud giant kingdoms now abandoned and repurposed, with large cloud vaults that fly overhead the world below. The approach of a storm dragon heralds foul weather and harsh winds, and so their presence is often hidden or overlooked in comparison to the natural disasters they bring.

The storm dragon may be confused with the black dragon, but their bodies and crests differ. The shape of the horns mimicks that of a crown and electricity is known to arc from tip to tip when the dragon is enraged. Its body is covered in hard knobby scales with a dull purple glow sometimes seen from within cracks in their natural armor. Their wings are vast, and their long tail ends in a sword-like series of spines. The tail spines and horns are a copper to gold hue, and grow darker but never less shiny with age. Their voices are like thunder with little care for volume or subtle words, for they hold an arrogance that they are kings amongst dragonkind and shapers of the world. It is fortunate then that their arrogance is only matched by their sloth, and they usually do not bother to act until stirred, at which point they act with unrestrained fury.

Wyrmling storm dragons start off a dark midnight blue with smoother skin and fewer cracks in their natural armor, and with fewer horns than normal. Their horns increase with age and great wyrms may have dozens of points. Their eyes are illuminated purple against black sclera.

CombatEdit

Storm dragons believe in striking hard and fast to cause the greatest intimidation and doubt of success in their opponents. Making them believe they are utterly and absolutely outmatched wins some victories without continued combat, and more importantly drives their opponents to desperation. It uses this to judge the strength of an opponent, and may choose to return or harass them later.

Storm dragons use the environment to their advantage whenever possible, especially making use of cloud cover.

Breath Weapon (Su)

Storm dragons have two breath weapons, a modified line of lightning and an shockwave of lightning. The line deals the damage listed above, and if the line hits a a solid surface it blossoms into a 20 ft radius sphere at the point of impact.

Alternatively it can release a shockwave off its own body which extends out to its natural reach. All creatures in the area may make a save against the breathe weapon damage. If they fail the Reflex save they are also bull rushed outward. The storm dragon does not follow bull rush opponents.

Nimbus Form (Su)

Storm dragons can assume an alternate form that behaves in all ways like gaseous form at will. Specifically it resembles a storm cloud and offers a +10 bonus on Disguise checks to appear as such.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp)

At will-gust of wind (young or older); 3/day-great thunderclapSpC (juvenille or older); 1/day-constant lightning (old or older), control weather (ancient or older), hurricane force (great wyrm), wind walk (adult or older). The saving throws are Charisma based.

Stormbringer (Su)

The young or younger storm dragon is at home in the whirling tempest of a storm. It is immune to all wind based effects. In fact its mere presence worsens pre-existing natural (but not magically augmented) wind effects making it one step more intense wind out to the range of its frightful presence. It may suppress or resume this effect as a free action.

Skills

Intimidate, Survuval, and Swim are considered class skills for storm dragons.
