Identify is stupid and a waste of everyone's time anyways. This is a much better replacement.

It probably puts Appraise on the level with some of the better skills, but it trivializes too many little things for my taste.

Whaaaat. When outside of combat, you need an hour long 100 gp spell to identify stuff that's in your possession, but for the low, low price of a swift action, you can identify someone else's items. ItemS. Don't even need a detect magic. Yep, this makes loads of sense all around.

I am open to it being a single item per swift action used, but the criticism that it replaces the previous awful system of identification doesn't seem well-founded in my opinion. I don't think anyone really sets aside reserves of cold specifically to identify stuff, and giving Appraise an in-combat use (however minor) puts it more in the same realm as useful skills people would actually invest points in. As for not needing detect magic, God forbid that someone other than a spellcaster can identify stuff. The horror! - TG Cid (talk) 06:57, 14 January 2017 (MST)
