Talk:Better Disease Implementation (3.5e Variant Rule)

Looks great! The effects are a lot more flavourful than plain ability score damage. However, I might rather key the saving throw DC to Constitution (or Charisma, when said Constitution is lacking, as with undead). -HarrowedMind 00:16, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, and you make a good point. Having dexterity power disease would be strange. I've changed it. --Aarnott 15:02, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Possible typo... why is the save DC 7 + 1/2 + Con instead of 10? -- Eiji-kun 08:01, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Not a typo! "A success means the disease does not advance for that cycle. A success by 5 or more means that it improves by 1 Stage". DC 12 + 1/2 CR + Con is what you need to actually get better. --Aarnott 17:22, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Perfect. This is how diseases should have been in the first place, and not just as a poison that can be defeated by someone who read a book on medicine.

Any disease I make, I'll be using this rule.

I like it. Reminds me a little bit of my blight article, though it's the added framework and the new spells you added that gives the article a sense of completion.

This is way, way better than the default implementation. I'd add a spell that instantly takes you to stage 2 or 3 of the disease, personally.

This is really good. Ironically we have a bit of hivemind, as I just made a slew of new diseases using rules very very similar to this. Think they're compatible? They are Caster Decay (3.5e Disease), Shadowfade Sickness (3.5e Disease), Golem Rot (3.5e Disease), and Marsh Fever (3.5e Disease).

All in all, excellent job.

I use a template: Better Disease Implementation (3.5e Variant Rule)/Disease Template that you could add to the pages. I think Wildmage did that for some diseases. You can see usages on the actual disease page here; it is pretty simple. I see no reason they wouldn't be compatible. --Aarnott 18:21, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm slightly wary of liking this due to the fact that it's not complete per se, but that doesn't diminish its virtues. This is just what I've been looking for in terms of a remake of disease rules that makes them actually cool to use and not totally inconsequential. I had initially been thinking of making a system a bit more reminiscent of Taint from Heroes of Horror, but I still strongly approve of the rules presented here.

Mostly what Cid said, though I don't necessarily agree with some of the endpoints of the diseases. While I do like this, I'd give it a 4/5 rather than a full mark.
