Great flavor on this one. While I don't think Paladins deserve all the stereotypical flak they get, this ACF provides some refreshing, flavorful and useful replacements for a old familiar class.

Not only is it cool, functional, and flavorful, but TIL you have an Unkindness of Ravens.

Purty cool. Nice Nordic flavor.

Gender fluid

Your Paladin changes gender throughout the description. Is your Paladin gender fluid, by chance? - MadmanFromSpace (talk) 14:10, 19 June 2018 (MDT)

It much more likely that when I revised it, I accidentally used different pronouns in abilities and passage I rewrote. Also not playing any Paladin with that right now, may change soon.--Leziad (talk) 14:25, 19 June 2018 (MDT)

Eddanic Paladin

A Norse-flavored paladin who smites down giants, calls upon the power of thunder and war, and bonds with a raven familiar. The eddanic paladin is not as effective against undead, and she possesses a different code of conduct than the typical paladin. She also does not possess a special mount, which reduces her mobility options.

Class: Paladin

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Aura of Good, Code of Conduct, Turn Undead, Special Mount

Benefit: An eddanic paladin receive the follow class features:

Code of Honor: An Eddanic Paladin’s code is more relaxed. She can also be of any good alignment - she cannot become a fallen Paladin due to how lawful or chaotic she may be. A paladin may still fall, however, if she falls out of grace of her patron deity (or whatever granted the Paladin her powers), although she may need to only find another power source to regain her abilities.

Eddanic paladins still have a code of honor to follow:

  • Must be willing to die in battle, for fleeing is for the weak and cowardly, but...
  • Must make sure she does not cause the death of her comrades.
  • Must never gain attack roll bonuses from flanking, though she may still benefit from sneak attack when flanking (since sneak attack is a bonus to damage, not to attack rolls).
  • Must never employ poisons; a true eddanic Paladin will win by strength, skill, and threatening presence.
  • Must not kill a helpless creature whom she did not previously defeat in combat.
  • If issued a challenge( such as from the knight class), she must accept it.
  • Must not mistreat or abuse her captives.

If she violates her code of honor, she loses one of her smite evil attempts for the day. If she does not have any smite evil attempts remaining, she takes a -1 penalty to attack rolls and to AC for 24 hours. This penalty is cumulative for every violation to the eddanic Paladin code of honor.

Dedication to War (Ex): A 4th level eddanic paladin counts her paladin level as effective fighter level for the purpose of qualifying for feats.

Poetic Edda (Ex): An eddanic paladin gains bardic knowledge as a bard of her class level.

Smite Giant (Sp): An eddanic paladin can apply her smite evil on creatures of the giant type of any alignment as well as evil creatures. If a giant she smite is within the range of alignment the paladin can smite she deal twice the normal amount of bonus smite damage.

Raven Companion: At 3rd level, an eddanic paladin gains a Raven familiar using her eddanic paladin class level as her effective Wizard level. If slain, her raven companion returns to her automatically after 3 days with no additional penalties.

Call of the Thunderer (Sp): A 4th level eddanic paladin add a few powerful electric spells to her spell list. She must prepare these spells just like she prepares any other spell from the Paladin spell list. She add the spells from the list below at the appropriated level:
1st— shocking grasp, stun volt
2nd— gust of wind
3rd— call lightning, gale force
4th— call lightning storm, lightning strike twice

Raven's Sight (Ps): At 5th level a eddanic paladin is capable of using sense link at will as a standard action, but only between her and her raven familiar.

Smite per encounter question

What would your ruling be for if someone wanted to apply the Eddanic Paladin ACF to a Paladin class that already had another ACF where smite evil was encounter uses and not daily uses?
