I really like this idea in terms of role playing. The actual game play would kinda suck because you could only use your actual strength score for a number of rounds per day equal to your rage potential. But the good part is that that just plays into the point of a flaw-to be a drawback.

However, my only two minor concerns are that because you spend SO much time without access to your actual strength score I dont think it's necessary to specify what power of feats a person can get for taking this feat. I think that's up to the DM to decide. Secondly, the part about people with already low strength getting a -2 on strength worries me. What someone rolls 3d6 for stats, get a 3 and put it in strength (stupid, I know), but then their strength would be reduced to 1. Rather than implementing a penalty to already low strength, maybe have a minimum strength score to take this flaw? like 8 or something?


I mean if they rolled 3, it seem odd that they choose barbarian as their class and then select this flaw. The drawback is indeed pretty strong, but the flavor option that come with the flaw and the fact that it offer no drawback when rage is in use should counteract the lack of strength. --Leziad (talk) 23:07, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

I'm aware of that. The issue isn't about Con, and I'm not saying that this subtraction from strength will reduce the time they have their strength for. If you have an 18 con, and you rage and gain the +2 bringing you to 20, a fit of rage will only last for 8 rounds. As a first level Barbarian you can only rage the once per day (extra feats excluded). So 8 rounds x 6 seconds per round = 48 seconds per day out of 24 hours. So with this flaw, if your natural Strength is 20 you'll walk around towns and dungeons alike with the carrying / lifting capacity of a 10 strength, and for 48 seconds per day you'll get your 20 strength back.
Even if you increase this with other feats later on in the game, like say if you took Extend rage twice and Extra rage once, by 9th level you'd be able to rage 5 times per day and each rage would last 18 rounds. So it would be 18 rounds x 6 seconds = 108 seconds (or 1 minutes 48 seconds) per rage X 5 rages = 540 seconds (or 9 minutes) per day. There are 1440 minutes in a 24 hour period. Therefore, if you only have your actual strength for 9 minutes per day (which is often spit up, you dont usually use all 5 rages in a row) then you're only having access to your full strength score 0.625% of the day. For the other 99.375% of the day, you have a strength score of 10.
Even if you remove 8 hours of sleep time and assume 16 hours awake, that's still 960 minutes in 16 hours which would still be 0.9375% of your day with access to your full strength, so, still less than 1%.
That is my justification for saying that you shouldn't restrict the type or "level" of feat that someone can take with this flaw. It's already removing your high strength score for over 99% of the day, and as a "warrior" type class that's a huge negative. I'm not advocating for any changes to the flaw itself, simply stating that there shouldn't be a specified restriction on the type of feats you can take in return. By and large, Strength 10 isn't a huge disadvantage in most situations, and you'll have access to your full Strength during most fights, which is when you'll typically need it. --Undead_Knave (talk) 17:37, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
