Redid the Savage Species class[edit]

One of the only 2 WotC classes with NO BAB. Quite odd to balance. -- Eiji-kun 04:49, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't have access to Savage Species, what were the changes to this class over the original version, and also what other class had no BAB? The Dire Reverend 04:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
The answer to your second question is "War Hulk". --65.92.147.104 13:42, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I would say that the War Hulk only got away with it because it gave +2 Strength at every class level. This class doesn't get that, and if you subscribe to the notion that the best defense is a good offense then it is sorely lacking. - TG Cid 14:21, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the Survivor explicitly doesn't subscribe to that notion. It's not like having 0 BAB really matters for a character who doesn't make attack rolls, anyways. I wonder what sort of build would use this class... --Foxwarrior 20:11, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps, but "not dying" doesn't sound like a way to be useful in combat when you can't do anything else useful. Whatever other class you are, you have to give up 5 levels of that for this to get all of that survivability. Rarely seems like it would be worth it to me, unless your base class just sucks ass (in which case you've got bigger problems). - TG Cid 20:29, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm actually in agreement, and this was the originals major failing. It just wasn't worth the lost. In order to make it worth it, it should be giving some serious defensive benefits (which hopefully I succeeded in). Even so, it's still somewhat of a niche class. The best examples are a full BABer who needs the defense for some reason and can aford the drop to medium BAB, or someone who doesn't use BAB such as a Dragonfire Adept. -- Eiji-kun 08:18, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

== Hidden Prerequisite: Prepared Caster Only ==

"0 BAB growth is true to the original class, but if you desire all classes have some BAB growth, consider giving poor BAB to the survivor." Well that shafts the martial types, especially with Tome combat feats.

"Class Advancement: While the survivor does not progress any classes, it counts its class level for advancing other class abilities you have which are based on class level, such as a spellcaster's caster level, a rogue's sneak attack, a initiator's initiator level, and so forth. It only functions on class features you already possess, you do not gain any new class abilities or spells known from this ability."

Well that shafts most other classes- except prepared casters. The end result is a class that gives you awesome defense but no offense for five levels- except for wizards, clerics, and their ilk, who enjoy awesome defense and continue their great offense. --Fluffykittens (talk) 20:52, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

That's boilerplate partial advancement. It doesn't give new spells per day, so said wizard 1/Survivor 5 (not valid, but bear with me) has a CL 6, and... just 1st level spells. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 03:53, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, my brain is not functioning, senpai noticed me today.--Fluffykittens (talk) 05:31, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Well How About That[edit]

You wanna know what this synergizes hilariously well with? Wizard. No shit. This basically does you the favor of continuing to pack on Wizard levels as you advance, turns your dinky d4s into MANLY MAXIMIZED D12S, and takes the overall vulnerability of the Wizard, and pisses in its eye. You can be spelltank. On a scale of Thing to Not Thing, spelltank is a Never In A Million Years Should Be A Thing. And I FUCKING LOVE IT. Eiji, why you so good to me? -SecondDeath777 00:20, 8 November 2017

stacking?[edit]

what if you already had damage reduction or energy resistance, such as from barbarian levels. Grog toad (talk) 07:28, 25 February 2018 (MST)

All sources of permanent damage reduction stack, to my knowledge. -SecondDeath777 10:40, 25 February 2018
Actually, just the opposite. Unless it specifically says so, damage reduction never stacks. It says so right here, Damage Reduction last line. Grog toad (talk) 10:52, 25 February 2018 (MST)
Oh. Huh. Honestly, I thought it'd be more powerful, given how high it gets on some creatures. Well, it's worked that way in campaigns I've been in for a good while, so I see no reason to stop now. -SecondDeath777 21:13, 25 February 2018
This class is completely defensive. I would like to see a counter-attack or rebound damage ability in it. --Franken Kesey 15:44, 14 March 2018 (MDT)

A good prestige class that can be added to the sword or shield of the party, or anyone really. Well balanced, and with strong flavor.
