''A small bug crawled into the eye of the corpse, and the corpse shuddered and stood up.''

These strange bugs look like a cross between a pillbug, a maggot, and a centipede with strange tiny faces which some have said resembles a humanoid visage with multiple beady red eyes.  They have segmented brown or pale shells, and blue blood.  They are carrion creatures who seek out corpses and puppet them for their own gain while slowly eating them from the inside out if they are unable to find any other source of food.  Eventually the old body must be discarded and a new one found, and it is usually during the process of making a new fresh corpse out of the living that they run into adventuring types.

Even though their task is grim, they are not generally hostile and can be talked down or parleyed with.  They enjoy collecting and hobbies and often have a lair with their materials hidden within.  What an insect wants with whatever they collect is a mystery of its own.

Titiriteros speak Common, and their voices are raspy whispers.  When inhabiting a body they retain a rasp but adopt the voice of whatever they are piloting.

As carrion creatures they will never willingly fight in their natural form and always instead pilot a corpse.  If their corpse perishes they usually wait until the enemy has left before crawling out to safety.  They take care wandering in the daytime just in case their corpse perishes and they need to flee under its harsh light.

It burrows into the brain case as a 1 round action, eating the remains of the brain, and fills the body with its preservative poison which it can manipulate with electrochemical reactions.  The process places the corpse under the effect of ''[[SRD:Gentle Repose|gentle repose]]'' to the point the corpse only ages a day for every year.  However typically the corpse decays much faster as damage accrues over time.

It gains the mental ability scores, skills, and feats of the titiriteros and the titiriteros has total cover and concealment from the outside.  The titiriteros can see, hear, and speak through its corpse.  The chemicals used to puppet the corpse renders it unable to be re-animated again once destroyed.

Corpses are technically [[SRD:Construct|constructs]], not undead, though do not change any of the HD, BAB, or skills.  They are unaffected by both positive and negative energy, and unaffected by turn and rebuke undead.

'''Vulnerability to Light:'''  Titiriteros are weak to UV radiation.  In natural sunlight they start [[Burning (3.5e Condition)|burning]], and so most immediately attempt to burrow or find a new body to hide themselves from the sun.  Effects which instantly kill creatures weak to light (such as ''[[SRD:Sunburst|sunburst]]'') also kill the titiriteros.

Titiriteros can be used as familiars with the [[SRD:Improved Familiar|Improved Familiar]] feat and at least caster level 5th.  They usually are inhabiting a body as a zombie companion.
