DescriptionEdit

The Tremure (origin: trois murs, meaning three walls) combines the functionality of padded armour, in the form of a quilted doublet underlay, chainmail, and plate in the form of strategically placed protections. The chest is guarded by a plate cuirass with short faulds that resists deforming and redirects the power of incoming thrusts away from the body's center. Sabatons protect the feet and safeguard maneuverability on the battlefield. The hands and forearms are guarded by bracers and clad in mail instead of heavier plate gauntlets in order to maintain manual dexterity, and the legs are often protected by a layer of hardened leather interspersed with brigandine plates. A tremure suit is heavy, but is designed to impede the movement of key joints as little as possible. An additional layer of thin leather padding between the hauberk and the cuirass greatly retards the kinetic energy of thrusting weapons. Because the multiple layers of this armour need to interact with as little friction as possible, tremures are generally expensive, painstakingly crafted, and reserved for mobile high ranking warriors or commandos.

A masterwork version of the tremure effectively requires 4 masterwork elements of 150 gp each (one for each part of the armour), for a total cost increase of 600 gp and the requirement of 4 DC 25 Craft checks.

A tremure suit of armour is more easily fitted to the individual soldier than a suit of full plate, since refitting hauberks and doublets is straightforward. Only the breastplate part of the suit will need to be fitted to the individual by an armoursmith, which is a 1 hour job that costs 50 to 200 gp (2d4x25 gp) in base materials.

Due to the inherent challenge in fitting this armour, all Craft DCs for the creation of a tremure suit are increased by +5 from the norm.

Special QualitiesEdit

While not shielding the wearer as fully as full-body plate, the tremure is excellent at reducing the force of incoming thrusts and slashes. The wielder of a tremure panoply has damage reduction/bludgeoning equal to one third of the hardness of the mail and plate components of the suit, rounded down (DR 3/bludgeoning for a standard, 10 hardness, nonmagical tremure suit fashioned from quality steel). Increased hardness from magical enhancement will also increase this damage reduction.
