Tsuntsu

A blind race of molebat people birthed from the union of the earth and sky.

Personality

To be added.

Physical Description

Tsuntsu are vaguely humanoid in shape and completely covered in fur. They have an elongated, mole-like nose and no eyes. Tsuntsu have sturdy, leathery wings connected under their arms — like a bat — which fold to stick close their bodies when their arms are extended up or forward. Their hands end in long, digging claws, and their ears are large and prevalent, but can be held tight against their head to keep out dirt and rocks.

Relations

Tsuntsu are generally relatively friendly, but typically have difficulties speaking or understanding languages other than their own and are somewhat horrifying in appearance to most other races. When combined with their lack of sight, which is the main sense used by many races, this leads to relations typically being tense.

Alignment

Tsuntsu may be of any alignment. More important to them is the distinction between Earth and Sky, a separation they believe exists in every creature and object.

Lands

Tsuntsu typically live in areas with hills or mountains. Their settlements tend to have areas with high ceilings and areas with close quarters. These are obviously separate places, since those things are mutually exclusive. Their settlements generally don't have a very refined aesthetic on account of the Tsuntsu having no eyes.

Religion

Tsuntsu worship the gods Tsun - a great bat who is the sky whose beautiful voice changes the weather and seasons — and Tsu — an enormous mole who is the earth and whose beat controls time. They believe Tsun and Tsu to be the parents of both their race as a whole as well as each individual Tsuntsu.

Every tribe of Tsuntsu has a priestess of Tsun and a priest of Tsu. The priestess of Tsun is called the Rhythm of Tsun and is in charge of internal matters for the tribe and is the authority for matters of the sky. The priest of Tsu is called the Beat of Tsu and is in charge of knowledge and external matters — including dealing with other peoples — and is the authority for matters of the earth.

Language

Tsuntsu speak their own language, conveniently also called Tsuntsu. Tsuntsu is an instinctive, percussive language difficult for other races to speak. It's basically beatboxing. Non-Tsuntsu attempting to speak Tsuntsu must succeed on a Perform (Percussion) check to get across their message. The DC ranges from 15 for very simple concepts to 25 for very complicated thoughts.

Names

Tsuntsu are given names that describe features they have as children. Upon reaching adulthood, they choose a name with the help of the leadership of their tribe, generally based on what skills they have or what role they play. Tsuntsu names are — like the rest of their language — highly percussive.

Sample names: Make some beatboxing sounds.

Racial Traits

  • +2 Strength, +2 or +4 Dexterity, +4 or +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma
  • Monstrous Humanoid (Earth or Air): Tsuntsu are horrifying molebats.
  • Small: As a Small creature, a tsuntsu gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Tsuntsu base land speed is 20' feet. 30' Burrow or 30' Fly (Average)
  • Earth or Sky. (Ex): All Tsuntsu take more after either their father Tsu or their mother Tsun. At character creation, pick either Earth or Sky. This changes many of the other racial traits received, as noted in that trait.
  • No Eyes (Ex): Tsuntsu have no eyes and, as such, are blind.
  • Swivel Ears (Ex): Tsuntsu ears are designed to close in multiple places to stop from getting dirt in them. As a Swift or Move action, a Tsuntsu may become deaf until it spends another Swift or Move action to open them back up. A Tsuntsu deafened in this way loses any Blindsense or Blindsight it may have, but cannot be deafened until they choose to open their ears again.
  • Elemental Attunement (Ex): You can understand and be understood by creatures that speak Terran or Auran and get a +1 to any rolling involving a creature with the Earth or Air subtype.
  • Natural Armor: Tsuntsu have +2 or +1 natural armor from their fur and leathery skin.
  • Instinctively Percussive (Ex): Tsuntsu always have max ranks in Perform (Percussion) and it is always a class skill for them. They may also use Constitution or Dexterity for Perform (Percussion).
  • Wings (Ex): Tsuntsu reduce falling damage by 1 die (to a minimum of 0d6 and a maximum of 19d6) because of their wings.
  • Hearing of the Earth and Sky (Ex): You have Tremorsense 120' and Tremorsight 30' or Blindsense 60' and Blindsight 10'.

Vital Statistics

Make something up. They're definitely smaller, and probably shorter-lived than humans. They're probably also relatively light for their height because of the mechanics necessary for flight (hollow bones and whatnot).

Unblessed Tsuntsu

Some Tsuntsu have the blessing of neither of their parents. They are typically exiled young. This is a non level adjusted version of their race.

Racial Traits

  • +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity or +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma
  • Monstrous Humanoid: Unblessed Tsuntsu are horrifying molebats who could probably use a hug.
  • Small: As a Small creature, an unblessed tsuntsu gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Unblessed Tsuntsu base land speed is 20' feet.
  • Unblessed Tsuntsu are unloved by both Tsun and Tsu. This divine rejection gives them Spell Resistance 10+HD to divine spells, as well as spells with the [Earth] and [Air] tags. This Spell Resistance cannot be voluntarily lowered.
  • Natural Armor: Unblessed Tsuntsu have +1 natural armor from their fur and leathery skin.
  • Instinctively Percussive (Ex): Tsuntsu always have max ranks in Perform (Percussion) and it is always a class skill for them.
  • Wings (Ex): Tsuntsu reduce falling damage by 1 die (to a minimum of 0d6 and a maximum of 19d6) because of their wings.
  • Creatures with the [Earth] and [Air] subtypes have Bane against Unblessed Tsuntsu. Theirs is a hard lot.
  • Unbessed Tsuntsu have Tremorsight 30' and Blindsight 10'.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Tsuntsu
