Storms Style of Play

In regards to the subject of this site and role playing in general, teh Storm is a Metagamist Role Player.

Urban Dictionary defines this style thus:

metagame 50 up, 1 down

The highest level of strategy in many complex games, metagame refers to any aspect of strategy that involves thinking about what your opponent is thinking you are thinking. Metagame comes into play in any game where no single strategy is dominant and opposing sides are aware of multiple strategies that can succeed dependent upon opponents' actions. In order to perform at the highest level, it then becomes necessary to think about what your opponent thinks you will do (which may depend on what he thinks you think he thinks he will do, etc.) and to make decisions based on clues regarding what level they are thinking on. This term is most commonly used to refer to poker and other complex card games, but is increasingly being used in relation to video games with complicated player vs player elements and even traditional sports.

Normally I would raise the flop with this hand as a semi-bluff, but I've been so aggressive lately that taking metagame into consideration I think he will go all-in with any pair, so instead I'm going to fold.

This guy thinks that I'm going to zergling rush which means he will waste resources defending early. Instead I am going to focus on resource development for mid game, and metagame will win me this match.

roleplay 57 up, 9 down

(v.) To act and speak as if you are the character you're portraying. To roleplay is as much about what not to say as what TO say. It means to keep your speech in the context of the setting in which your character (or avatar) exists. Context can be defined as both time and place.

Most roleplaying that occurs is in an online setting, such as an online game, a chat room, or a message board.

(adj.) A setting in which the act of roleplaying is strongly encouraged, or even enforced.

(v.) "Do you like to roleplay?" or "I'm trying to learn how to properly roleplay my character."

(adj.) "What are the rules on this roleplay server?" or "This is strictly a roleplay chat room."

Metagamist Role Player (not a dictionary definition)

A style of role play where character is never dropped, even when combat and other threatening situations arise. Based almost purely on acting and "what if" scenarios, often involves split decision making in character and extensive notes on the persona and history of the character.

Dave (Strategist)- Fred, I'm down to three hit points! Heal me!!

Fred (Metagamist Role Player)- Carinith hears Xaldins cries of pain, and resolves to end this fight quickly that he may heal his friend safely. Out of game, Dave, Carinith is a crusader true and true, so he considers healing an after conflict event. Anyway, I'm casting Holy Smite, centered on me!

Ian (Munchkin)- Dude, my tiefling is right next to you! I will die and lose XP!

Fred- Yeah, but your a demon as far as Carinith is concerned, and he has a mental list of your uses in his crusade, and they are few. Besides, this was the price he said you had to pay for doing a priestess that I mentioned earlier.

Kevin (Role Player)- Dude, Carinith is an ass! This is combat, Fred, so stop being Carinith for one round and heal Dave, er, Xaldin! D'Artanian senses the danger to his friend Ian the Dark and moves to shield him!

Storms Style of Worlds

When teh Storm is at the helm, one should prepare for a world of strategy and conflict, where the world is in shades of grey and one must choose their shade. Storms world is deadly, and only the truly cunning and brilliant survive.

Favorite Systems

D&D 3.5 all the way! The best system I have tried for truly fantastical games of high fantasy and heroics. I cry for the creation of 4E, but my hope has been restored by Pathfinders, which I hope to acquire presently.

Starwars D20 I only got in because I saw it as what I wanted from D20 Modern and Futuristic in one, much more affordable book. I dove in with modifications, and came out with an awesome system for sci-fi gaming.

World of Darkness 3rd Edition A brilliant rewrite of the original White Wolf games that makes humans the base line for once and has a centralized system that supernaturals can branch off from, thus brilliant for realistic, dark, gritty gaming.
