Stewardship

Can you look after my stuff? I neither have time or energy for the vigil that I possessed before. Much of my work has been remove due to minor problems, as well as me not being here to defend them. I would also appreciated if you could revive Frankensteins creations - the face was ugly, yet the mind and heart still may be of use. --Franken Kesey 01:26, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

No. --Sulacu 17:38, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Winter Cleaning

I'm cleaning out last year's winter cleaning project and you had a few articles that apparently have bad formatting. They are probably missing semantic properties that come from templates. Can you fix them up:

Thanks. --Aarnott 18:18, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Ratings Update

Following the recent wiki vote on ratings granularity and display, all old ratings can be updated to make use of "love / like / neutral / dislike / hate" instead of the old values. If you would like to update your ratings, you can find a list of them at Category:Legacy Rating Sulacu. When you update a rating, be sure to delete the "|OldRating=True" part. - Tarkisflux Talk 18:11, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Caster Level for Blade of Disaster

I liked your homebrew entry on the Blade of Disaster, but I'm having a bit of trouble incorporating it into existing rules for 3.5.

My primary concern is in regards to the determination of caster level by the wielder's BaB, and how this should be handled when it is used by a character who's BaB is below what would be a typical caster level for Disintegrate or Black Blade of Disaster. For example, if a Wizard 20 were to use a weapon with this property, his ECL for the effect would only be 10 (too low for either spell). I was thinking of making it a minimum of 11 (for Disintegrate) but then recalled that the weapon itself is replicating Black Blade of Disaster, and not necessarily Disintegrate. Yet, minimum caster level 17 seems a bit much for only +5 price adjustment (34d6 on a failed save for only 50k).

Since spells can't be reduced below their minimum caster level per the SRD, the weapon is only viable in its current state to those with a BaB of +17 or higher, which is really only 17th level Fighter classes. Anything else would have to be high into epic levels before having a shot at using this realistically.

I realize it's all homebrew, but I really like this weapon and want to use it in a game. As the author of the weapon's entry, how would you suggest resolving this?

Firstly, please sign your comments. Secondly, yes they can; creature spell-like abilities do it a lot. Also, the disintegrate effect created by the blade of disaster is not a spell, so it doesn't care what the SRD says about it. It is technically viable at any base attack bonus, and is only limited by its cost (which is minimally 72k, since per the SRD a weapon needs to have at least a +1 enhancement bonus before you can put special qualities on it). Fourthly, the article has its own talk page where you can easily direct these kinds of questions and criticisms to instead of to my own talk page. Since I put all my articles on watch and I regularly check the wiki, I would have come across it anyway.
Lastly, going by standard wealth by level, the first level transition where you gain enough money at once to buy this thing or upgrade a +1 weapon to +6, is from level 16 to level 17, so unless you save up fastidiously, you likely won't wield this thing at a much lower level than that. Unless you can craft it yourself, in which case you probably don't have the base attack bonus necessary to make this worthwhile. --Sulacu 09:12, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, new to this site. Thank you very much for your response. Ch1024 (talk) 03:43, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Zen Archer

3 years ago you changed the editing note on Zen Archer (3.5e Class) to "This class is shit. Do not take it until a rewrite is made." Mind if that gets sandboxed until it's not shit? - Tarkisflux Talk 21:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

No problem. --Sulacu (talk) 21:43, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Fair Use Images

Can you add a link to the source for File:Wrath of the Primevals.jpg and any future images you load under fair use please? We need it on every one to meet the 4 factor test, and will remove the image eventually if one doesn't get added. Additional stuff about that licensing option for images can be found on the Image Policies page. Thanks Sulacu. - Tarkisflux Talk 17:38, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Just a ping about the incomplete Elemental_Sprite_(3.5e_Monster). Can you finish it or sandbox it? - Tarkisflux Talk 07:13, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Aura Seal — Refinement Request

Hello. A while ago, I wrote up a special condition called Aura Seal, based on the status debuff of the same name from Xenoblade Chronicles. In Xenoblade Chronicles, Aura Seal does exactly what its name says it does; it prevents auras (read: status buffs and counterattacks) from working. The Dungeons & Dragons version is intended to be similar, but a bit more... Uh, I can't think of the right word to use, but the point is, Dungeons & Dragons Aura Seal is meant to only block effects that are temporary in nature; it does not block effects that are part of a creature or its gear. So, if you have +4 magic armor, Aura Seal doesn't stop that from working, but if you get a +4 armor bonus from a spell, that gets shut down.

As you can probably tell from my inability to get to the point, I'm still a little confused on how Aura Seal should work. So, my request is for you and some other experienced D&D players (like, say, Eiji-kun, Ghostwheel, Tarkisflux, Ganteka Future, Surgo, etc.) to read the Aura Seal project, then bring as many corner cases and questionable effects to my attention as possible to help me sort out what Aura Seal does and doesn't block. Thanks in advance for the help. --Luigifan18 (talk) 20:08, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

In my opinion, just have it be a beefed up targeted dispelling/purging of supernatural abilities. With the possible caveat that any dispelled permanently active spells, spell-like or supernatural effects cannot be reactivated for at least X amount of time. Like, maybe a minute or so. That's pretty much how it works in Xenoblade, no? I don't see a need for anything much more complicated than that. --Sulacu (talk) 20:50, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
That... that's brilliant. I haven't watched Chuggaconroy's LP of Xenoblade Chronicles all the way to the end yet, but I think you're right about how Aura Seal works. The problem is that an effect that inflicts Aura Seal in D&D doesn't necessarily dispel buffs when applied. I set it up to work sort of like antimagic that only works on buffs. Your idea is a good one, though, and I'll take it under consideration. --Luigifan18 (talk) 22:07, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
In the game, Monado Purge removes buffs from enemies, like the 'Crazed' aura which makes some specific mobs go red and kill you to death really quickly if not removed asap, and the Telethia's Soul Read. It also stops thorns damage for a while. So yeah, it all boils down to removing buffs in the end. You could even go so far as to make it act like an antimagic field on the target with a range of personal, affecting only the target, that will go away after a few rounds. Anyway, from someone who has played both Xenoblade and D&D, don't worry too much about being as true as possible to the source and just worry about how best to make it work within the established ruleset of D&D with the least complexity necessary. Cause I have the feeling that's part of what leads you to write really really long articles sometimes. --Sulacu (talk) 22:20, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
"You could even go so far as to make it act like an antimagic field on the target with a range of personal, affecting only the target, that will go away after a few rounds." Er... It already acts like that, except it only affects beneficial effects, and doesn't affect magical equipment (except when that equipment is activated temporarily instead of being active all the time), soulmelds (except when those soulmelds are activated temporarily instead of being active all the time), or continuously active supernatural effects, nor does it prevent the victim from casting spells, manifesting powers, or using supernatural abilities (though it could prevent the victim from benefiting from them, if they involve self-buffing). It also blocks extraordinary buffs, like a barbarian's range. Monado Purge is one way to inflict Aura Seal (yes, I've written the Monado into D&D, too), and it does carry a dispel effect along with it, but I've written up other ways to inflict Aura Seal, such as Buff Lockdown. Inflicting Aura Seal is completely separate from removing buffs; the same effect can do both, but it's not necessary. By itself, Aura Seal only suppresses buffs.
Also, now that you mention it, wanting to be true to the source material and get every little detail right is part of what often drives me to write really long articles. (The other part is a desire to leave as little as possible open to misinterpretation.) --Luigifan18 (talk) 23:59, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Undo removal

Would you kindly re-add my friends ratings, from my understanding of the rating rules nothing was broken by asking a friend to review content. Even ratings he posted that were not for my feats were deleted. --Furhammer (talk)

Like I said before, there is nothing wrong with rating an article because you think it's cool or fun, but there is a big gulf between rating a few articles you have an interest in and literally making an account to blanket-rate everything (and I mean, literally everything) made by one specific user. I saw the ratings, none of which went through any lengths explaining why the articles were any good. I decided to remove them. It was such a blatant endorsement of one user's body of work that I legitimately suspected sockpuppetry. The fact that the ratings were written by another person isn't even relevant to the issue at hand.
Ratings aren't a tool to get points. They exist for the sake of the readers, not the writer. Ask yourself this: would your friend have cared to rate those articles if someone else had written them?
What message does it convey if you're fine with making a friend bump your stuff while at the same time cherry-picking your raters by trying to discourage other users like Ghostwheel from rating negatively? The rules on rating that I like to link to you and your friend so often have a few things to say about cherry-picking who you ask to rate your articles. Even disregarding my decision to remove those ratings, if everybody handled rating in such a manner it would make the very process of rating lose its significance. I like the system that we have, so I don't want to see that happen.
So no, I'm not going to restore those ratings. Your friend is free to submit new ratings as long as he rates seriously and does not go overboard. --Sulacu (talk) 20:08, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
have looked through other content with rating and they are about as general as what my friend posted, Ghostwheel on the other hand felt it was necessary to give multiple post a 0/1, I was not intent on discouraging him from rating but I would prefer his mouth be shut instead of voicing a complaint about the smallest issue. If someone is free to negatively rate most of someones content why is another not free to do the opposite. --Furhammer (talk)
I gave your friend some guideline on rating on his user talk. I would like to reiterate that what we do we do to attempt to prevent potential rating bombing, cause our system of publication and deletion is very user based. I encourage your friend to restore and rework his rating and maybe rating things a tad slower, you are both new users and a sudden surge of rating does look fishy. If anything I also recommend both of you to rate articles by other authors as well. A lot of people here are fond of the work of Eiji-kun as well by example. --Leziad (talk) 20:50, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Rating notice (Alignment Without Alignment)

Your rating of Alignment Without Alignment (3.5e Variant Rule)‎ has been blocked and is no longer being counted among the article ratings. Please see the rating on the talk page to determine the block reason. Once you have addressed the cause of the block, generally by updating the rating in some fashion, please delete the "|block=<-reason->" line so that your rating will be counted again. You may also remove the block parameter if you feel it was not applied in accordance with our guidelines. Assistance editing your rating may be found here. Feel free to delete this notice at any time.
