Xok

Anthromorphic shark people from the waters off shore, these creatures come in many shapes and sizes granted to them by the blessings of an ancient sea deity. According to their history they were simple fishmen not unlike locathahs, but for reasons, cultural or survival related, they made a pact with the King of Sharks. The deity would mold them into his shape, and in return they gained the power they needed to survive and thrive.

Personality

One may assume shark people to be violent and brutish, but the truth is most are merely loners and keep to themselves. Xok realize most of them appear intimidating to others and use this fact to keep unwanted people away. When that fails, they are able to hold their own but will usually prefer to leave and get revenge later, or forget the altercation. Xok found outside their aquatic homes are usually solo, for they only leave with a purpose and once fulfilled they will return to their home.

Physical Description

Xok are larger than average humanoids with smooth hairless skin and the features of various shark species, a trait which they grow into as they age. Most start life as pale gray fish people of unremarkable and unidentifiable nature, short animalistic snouts, gills upon their neck, and small fins usually on the back of the head, neck, arms, legs, and with a long tail. As they age the nature of their blessing manifests and they soon grow to resemble various shark breeds such as the great white, whale shark, hammerhead shark, or even goblin shark. According to xok mythology, it is the direct influence of their deity taking place and choosing a position for them, or perhaps based on their personality. Others think it random, or based on some obscure celestial occurrence.

Relations

Xok tend to keep to themselves, or are found wandering as loners. This it is not uncommon for them to be found as adventurers. Thus most encounter Xok when they are on such quests, and as such they usually take care to work with others or at least find a way to muscle their way through the situation.

Alignment

Xok can be of any alignment, with most being True Neutral.

Lands

Xok live on the coasts underwater, where the light of the sun still reaches the sea floor. A few can be found deeper, but they are aberrant within their society.

Religion

The Xok used to worship a deity known as the "King of the Sharks", whose actual name has been lost to history. These days various aquatic deities claim the title, but it is unsure if the original deity still exists.

Language

Xok speak Common and Aquan.

Names

Xok tend to have names common on islands and coastlines that they inhabit.
