This spell may be prepared and/or cast at any spell level from 1 to 4, corresponding with the number of stages in the progression of diseases according to the following variant rule. The target must make a Fortitude save or come down with a disease of the caster’s choice (any disease the caster is familiar with can be chosen, regardless of any standard methods by which they spread), immediately showing symptoms of the chosen illness at the stage numerically equal to the spell’s level.
If possible, the disease continues to cycle normally (according to the time frame indicated on Table:Diseases) once the target has been infected, forcing the target to save again (using the original DC) or progress to the next stage of the disease.
This spell’s effects can be reversed by remove disease.
