Ancestral Roots[edit]

Ancestral roots is not a single magical location. In fact, each creature's ancestral roots is in a different location, with different events. What unites all of these seemingly random places is that one's ancestral roots are a place of great history for one's self. It delves deep into your genetic and cultural history and seems to be alight with the memories of your forebearers. Through study and contemplation, one can awaken truths about one's race and culture that you had not experienced before.

Lore[edit]

Though most chalk the changes of ancestral roots to merely mundane study, some suggest that what makes these places special over all others is that they are guided by the spirits and memories of one's forebearers, which lead to the participating creature to recreate and follow specific steps that lead them to some goal. Though the patterns are clear, as of yet no solid proof has been found involving ghosts and psychic impressions. Yet.

Description[edit]

Since each place is different for each creature, they have different appearances. A kobold seeking the wisdom of dragons may experience enlightenment in an abandoned dragon lair. A warforged may return to its factory of origin. A human may find themselves walking an ancient city street long abandoned or repurposed. The possibilities are as varies as the people who seek these magical locations out.

Prerequisite[edit]

While any creature can attempt to make the journey, creatures with less than 3 HD find themselves unable to take in the knowledge fully and the process fails. In addition they must have a Wisdom score of at least 13 to properly benefit.

Some locations may require at least one skill check to achieve their goals. Typically this is a Knowledge check of DC 20, but some other backgrounds could require other checks (such as Perform checks for the background for a siren).

Location Activation[edit]

Compared to other locations, the activation of ancestral roots is easy. It requires only a month of time and, through travel costs and other random expenses, a sum of 6000 gp (or 10,000gp, see below). After such a time, the benefit is automatically bestowed on the creature.

Recharge[edit]

Any number can seek out their ancestral roots. Those that have obtained benefit from the ancestral roots cannot activate it a second time.

Special Ability[edit]

You obtain a bonus feat of the Racial feat type or similar feats with specific racial requirements such as Warforged. Feats which require a broad racial requirement such as Fiend or Xenotheric can be selected with a higher cost as below. The DM may permit you to ignore any 1st level only requirements if appropriate.

Duration[edit]

Permanent.

Ability Value[edit]

6,000 gp (specific) or 10,000 gp (broad).
