|Components:||V, S, M|
|Casting time:||10 minutes|
|Effect:||A flock of 3d4 birds that act as spies in a 1 mile diameter|
You summon a flock to your side and send them off. If the enemy patrols through this area you shall know by the end of the day.
After 10 minutes, you summon a flock of 3d4 birds appropriate for the terrain to your side and provide them instruction to look out in your steed. You can tell them to look out to any event which can be confirmed with the bird's normal senses and intellect. Thus, you can ask them to look out for red flags, or certain loud sounds, but not something specific such as writing (which requires language), symbols, certain words, or something complex such as "criminal activity" as birds have no concept of laws. The birds will then proceed to patrol around in a 1 mile diameter centered on where you cast the spell and seek out these events over the next 8 hours. They will not enter any place they normally would avoid, and the spell fails if the area has no natural avian creatures to employ in service.
The birds do not return until 8 hours are up, at which they return to the point of casting to supernaturally report their findings (and will leave after 30 minutes if no one is there to hear). They report on the number of incidents, the rough time of day (within an hour), and the rough location, but no other details. Because the birds are not omnipresent, there is a 20% chance - 1% per caster level (minimum 0%) that the birds will miss a specific event, which may cause them not to report seeing anything.
Affected birds have their eyes glow, a feature which can be ascertained with a DC 15 Spot check.
Material Component: A handful of bird seed.
