Cane of the High North[edit]

The Cane of the High North uses the Functional Weapons of Legacy variant rule.

Cane of the High North
Price: 2012 gp
Body Slot: Held
Caster Level: 20th
Aura: Strong Universal (DC 30)
Activation: See Text
Weight: 8 lb

This appears to be an oversized candy cane, and while it does have that peppermint taste it is as hard as steel and not for eating. It looks silly, but it's a potent magical tool.

The Cane of the High North is a weapon of legacy rod (that is, a heavy mace) associated with the "holiday spirits" of Christmas. It starts out as a +1 heavy mace which gives the wielder constant endure elements (cold only) when on the creature. As various rituals are made and power is gained, the weapon starts taking on stronger powers. There are five rituals that are performed, they must be performed in order (the 2nd ritual must be completed before you start the 3rd, even if you achieve the 3rd level pre-requisites). Rituals cost gold (in the form of feeding the weapon raw materials) and xp, with an additional pre-requisite. Once the 1st level ritual is unlocked, the weapon displays its omen effect. You can take time out and spend 8 hours bringing the weapon to the next level once you have the pre-requisites.

The Cane of the High North is a unique magic item, on its way to becoming an artifact. While it has a price, it cannot be completely destroyed. If reduced to 0 hp, it instead falls inert in a broken condition, and unable to be used until repaired, but is not destroyed as items usually are. It is treated as an artifact against the effects of mage's disjunction.

Omen: The rod makes the chiming of tiny bells and gives off a faint glow.

1st Ritual (The Kind Shepard)[edit]

Hooked Crook: You can disarm with the cane without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Mission of Mercy: The cane of the high north gains the Merciful weapon enhancement. This doesn't count against it's total weapon enhancements it can have or its price.

Naughty or Nice: You gain both the effects of detect evil and detect good as spell-like abilities at will when wielding the cane. With this and all spell-like abilities gained with the cane, it uses your highest mental ability score and your character level as your class level.

Pre-Requisites: BAB +3 or Caster Level 3rd, must rescue at least two people from a life-threatening situation without killing anybody in the process.

Cost: 2000 gp, 80 xp

2nd Ritual (Pure of Spirit)[edit]

Belly of Jelly: You gain 5 temporary hp each round due to a protective layer which forms on your midsection.

Holy Night: The cane of the high north gains the Holy weapon enhancement. This doesn't count against it's total weapon enhancements it can have or its price.

Summon Rudolph: You can cast a special phantom steed up to 2/day (plus one additional time per ritual completed, to a max of 5 after the 5th ritual). This phantom steed is clearly a reindeer with a glowing nose, and it has See in Darkness and the ability to see through fog and clouds as if they weren't there.

Pre-Requisites: BAB +6 or Caster Level 6th, must defeat a creature with the [Evil] subtype your CR or greater.

Cost: 8000 gp, 320 xp

3rd Ritual (Slick as Ice)[edit]

Candy or Coal: You can cast prayer at will as a spell-like ability.

Through the Chimney: You count as a Fine sized creature for the purposes of squeezing through areas, and can give yourself freedom of movement for 1 round as a standard action.

Trip Flip: You can trip with the cane without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Pre-Requisites: BAB +9 or Caster Level 9th, must escape a grapple from a creature with an advantage of +6 or more on their grapple check.

Cost: 18,000 gp, 720 xp

4th Ritual (Unseen Aid)[edit]

Bag of Goods: You gain the Bag Full of Knick Knacks feat, though you lose access to it if the cane is ever out of your hands for more than 24 hours. This stacks with the actual feat, if you possess it.

Holy Presence: You begin every encounter with sanctuary automatically applied. Even after the sanctuary effect is broken, you have a benevolent presence that grants a +4 sacred bonus on AC and saving throws against evil creatures and their attacks and [Evil] spells. Evil summoned creatures cannot touch you in melee directly at all, though they may still hurt you indirectly or through ranged attacks.

Secret Santa: You gain invisibility at will.

Pre-Requisites: BAB +12 or Caster Level 12th, must give at least 4000 gp away as gifts to the needy over the course of 1 week.

Cost: 32,000 gp, 1280 xp

5th Ritual (Make A Wish)[edit]

Big Bag of Goods: You gain the Improved Bag Full of Knick Knacks feat, though you lose access to it if the cane is ever out of your hands for more than 24 hours. This stacks with the actual feat, if you possess it.

Gift of Life: Any time the wielder is at maximum hit points and they gain additional healing, this healing is spread out to all allies within 30 ft. This only transfers healing, and not any other effects (such as status effect removal).

Upon A Star: You gain limited wish once per week.

Pre-Requisites: BAB +15 or Caster Level 15th, must fulfill the request of a needy child no matter how difficult for no reward.

Cost: 50,000 gp, 2000 xp

Prerequisites: N/A.
Cost to Create: Unique item, cannot be created.
