Drop of Deep Violet[edit]

A rare case of an non-sentient vestige, this object nevertheless retains a spark of its former power when it was once a tool to channel the elder evil Y'chak. This jewel is sought for by many, but is said to bring curses.

Level: 1st

Binding DC: 15

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

In ancient times aboleth squirmed below the waves, venerating profaned entities which danced across the stars before the times of the gods. One of these things was terrible Y'chak, an elder evil associated with violet flames, the development of life, and the destruction of said life by their own hands. In these times they would use Y'chak to sow discord and strife amongst would be competitors springing forth from the early world, but ironically their activities also ended up bringing about their own destruction. The details of the apocalypse that followed are ill understood, but what was left in the ruin was a crystalize fragment of the elder evil's power, a violet flame frozen in solid form hauntingly beautiful yet terrifying at the same time.

As ages past, civilizations would discover this artifact and desire it. It would bring fortune and wonder before laying low any who obtained it with curses, disaster, and death. This crystal became infamous as a cursed yet desirable jewel that many chased after. And yet within the current age the crystal has been lost. It's unclear if it was destroyed, hidden, or actually if it ever existed and it was a metaphor for some knowledge left behind by the ancient aboleths. Believe in this crystal known as the Drop of Deep Violet persist and give it power and presence in the minds of others that can be called upon by binders. But be warned: even as a shadow of its true self the Drop of Deep Violet contained the malign powers of Y'chak, waiting to manifest.

Special summoning[edit]

Must use a crystal worth at least 50 gp as a focus. It forms a ring, amulet, or other bit of jewelry on the binders person.

Manifestation[edit]

The crystal used as a focus seems to shift, change, and flicker as if it were a candle flame before freezing in place, shining in brilliant deep purple with its own inner light. All who observe it would determine it was a priceless artifact unable to be properly valued. In fact while bound the crystal is in fact treated as an artifact for the purpose of not being destroyed by damage. Once the bind ends, it returns to its normal crystal focus state.

Sign[edit]

Beyond the presence of the jewelry itself, any who see the jewelry sees it as intensely valuable. Those prone to thievery may desire to steal it to their detriment.

The binders eyes turn deepest purple, which seem ever so unnatural as if their irises were surrounded by a burning ring of fire.

Influence[edit]

The binder becomes scheming, putting out long term plans and goals which will lead to the downfall of their enemies. They begin to make plans for everything, even the betrayal of allies, just in case.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Attraction[edit]

The binder gains the supernatural attraction the jewel seems to possess. They may use attraction as a psi-like ability at will, but only one instance at a time.

Concealed Terror[edit]

Something within the binder and their jewel is dreadful indeed. Whenever they or their jewel is subject to a divination effect, the diviner must make a Will save or be rendered frightened for 1d4 rounds, or shaken for 1 round on a successful save. Regardless of the save they cannot be affected again for 5 rounds. If they fail, the binder is aware of the direction and distance of the diviner, but no other details.

Jewel of Misfortune[edit]

The jewel itself can be removed, given away, or even lost, but not for long. The binder is always aware of its exact position and location and can recall it to their side as a standard action. However they may be willing to part with it, for besides appraising as an artifact of unfathomable value it comes with a curse. The binder may use a standard action to inflict bestow curse on the current user (no save), and may change a current curse to a new one as a standard action. They can even set up a contingency on when the curse goes into effect. However this curse only lasts while they have the jewel and nothing compels them to keep it other than ignorance of what the jewel is doing.

Summon Y'chak[edit]

Supposedly, the jewel has this power and all in depth studies and divinations reveal that the jewel is in fact the key to bringing the elder evil into the realm. The only issue of course is where or how this key is to be used has been lost. It would also probably be a bad idea.

Weapon of Hazard[edit]

At will the binder can enhance a weapon within 60 ft with the power of the violet flame. The weapon doubles its base damage for 1 minute, but all attacks with the weapon have a 20% chance of rebounding, striking its user instead. Unwilling targets can make a Will save to resist, granting immunity for 1 minute.

You can target up to one target per two binder levels if used as a 1 round action.
