Gun Nut

Proficiencies: Firearms
Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Perception

Equipment: A battered hand cannon or hand culverin which only you know how to use properly that can be sold for 10 gold pieces (all other creatures treat this as though it was faulty), a horn filled with black powder, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 5 gold pieces and 20 bullets. Your battered firearm cannot be modified through the use of the Gunsmith feat until it has been repaired by spending 2 hours and half of its listed cost in material components.

Feature: Wondrous Contraption

The firearm that you deeply treasure is a marvel of mechanical and alchemical engineering. This causes scholars, alchemists, and collectors of strange artifacts to have a friendly interest in you as they wish to inspect your firearm and hear of your stories alongside it.

Suggested Characteristics[edit]

Gun nuts are shaped by the firearm they wield; it is a close companion on cold nights to drive away dangers, a hot barrel signifying the end of a long battle, or even an intimidating roar to cause lesser enemies to flee. Each, however, is marked by the grit to weather the occasional misfires that occur, which can often lead them to a propensity towards gambling.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I keep my friends close, and my gun closer.
2 I'm constantly tinkering with my gun, making sure it's in tip-top shape.
3 I have a lucky charm or word of luck that I say which keeps me safe from misfires.
4 I am drawn to loud noises and various explosions.
5 I feel as though others who can't understand my fascination with guns are simple Luddites.
6 I begin and end my day by taking apart my gun to oil every piece and make sure everything works properly.
7 I like to take bets on how often my gun may misfire.
8 I like to start every battle by firing my gun into the air.

d6 Ideal
1 Freedom. The open roads give me inspiration on how to use my gun. (Chaotic)
2 Protection. My gun allows me to protect the common folk from threats. (Good)
3 Power. The power of my gun will let me have anything I can dream of! (Evil)
4 Honor. Guns work because of specific conditions. The world works the same way, and people should act accordingly. (Lawful)
5 Possessions. My gun is simply one part of my arsenal. If I take care of my belongings, they'll take care of me. (Neutral)
6 Struggle. Guns teach us that the path isn't always easy, but if we develop grit, we can reach meaningful places. (Neutral)

d6 Bond
1 Someone gifted me my first firearm. I owe them a great debt.
2 My friends supported me when others thought my obsession would lead to nothing. I will support them in kind.
3 A benefactor gave me the knowledge and tools to develop my gun. I have to work hard to show them that their investment led to something great.
4 The common people mine the ore and materials for my guns, and I should protect them as I protect myself.
5 I owe someone a lot of money for the development of my gun. Keeping them happy allows my debt to continue going unpaid.
6 I saved a person's life, after which they promised me a lot of money. I need to keep them alive for the debt to be repaid.

d6 Flaw
1 Never tell me the odds; luck will decide.
2 My gun is more important than the poeple around me.
3 I once made fun of a noble who didn't understand the greatness of guns. He still makes my life difficult.
4 My gun caused a scandal at home, and I can never return there as people fear me.
5 Like my gun, I go full force at the start, but have trouble making further efforts.
6 A single bullet can end a life; I guess lives aren't worth much more than the cost of a bullet.
