Man-Eating Grass[edit]

This trap is actually a hazard, a particularly vicious brand of grass which kills with a subtle acidic poison. Appearing as normal grass, those who step on it take 1 point of acid damage and must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or not notice that they have taken damage as well as take an additional 1d3 Dexterity damage, also not noticed. Each round, they may make another Fort save against the dexterity damage and against noticing that they are taking damage at all. Those with unusually thick or protective footwear (generally heavy armor greaves) get a +2 bonus on the saving throw.

Those who get paralyzed on the grass suffer a slow digestion process. Grass which has recently fed has the distinct odor of bleach.

Bypass[edit]

  • A DC 20 Search check reveals the grass to be abnormal, and telltale stains on the ground from previous victims. Once the truth is exposed a DC 20 Disable Device can work out a method to mat the grass down or otherwise find safe passage across, as long as you are not in a stressful situation. If you're in a stressful situation you cannot effectively pass over the grass unharmed unless you do not have direct contact with the grass. Cutting the grass or burning the grass also works, but either method releases a cloud of toxic fumes 10 ft high (2d6 acid and DC 20 Fortitude save against poison 1d6 Dex/1d6 Dex, inhaled) that lasts for 10 minutes.

Alternatives[edit]

Also known to come in the form of Man-Eating Moss, Man-Eating Cobblestone, and other substances.
