Phantom Beacon[edit]

The phantom beacon is a large fire brazier with a series of gears and lenses to collect and focus its light into a powerful beam of light, or to have the light dim or flicker on command. On its own, it acts like a lighthouse beacon, casting a line of light visible out to 10 miles. While useful on its own, it has a secondary function; when the beam of light passes over ethereal creatures, invisible creatures, or creatures which are polymorphed into another shape (via magic or by being a natural shapechanger not in their true form). These creatures are illuminated in pale gray light, either becoming visible or glowing for as long as they remain in the light. This ability is only effective at night, as they do not shine bright enough to be noticed in normal daylight.

The phantom beacon is too large to carry around on adventures. Its designed to be mounted on top of buildings and sweep across exposed streets for trouble. Controlling the beacon, its movement, and any flashing is a standard action. The phantom beacon takes up a 10 foot cube of space and weighs 800 lbs.
