From the room the door was clear, but on the shadow plane your sight was blocked by a shimmering sphere covering where the room should be.

A portal barrier creates a spherical bubble which acts as a barrier which stops teleportation, plane shifting, ethereal creatures, and similar means from passing through. Teleportation can occur inside the barrier, but cannot leave it and likewise teleportation from the outside can go anywhere except to the inside. Summoning and calling effects do not work while inside the area of effect, though summoned creatures may be brought from the outside and walk into the area as normal. When the warded area is encountered on other coterminous planes (such as the shadow and ethereal), the sphere forms a visible barrier which cannot be entered from that side. This effect is centered on a point in space or object and lasts for 1 hour/level normally. This form does not have a focus component.

This spell can be made permanent if you use the focus component, an altar, shrine, or other permanent fixture of a deity, pantheon, or higher power other than your patron (for divine casters) or a focusing crystal, statue, or other permanent fixture of arcane resonance (for arcane casters). If the object the effect is tied to breaks, the spell ends. You can dispel either version of the spell normally as well.

Either form may be shaped into an area smaller than the radius allowed, and non-spherical, allowing the barrier to follow the curves of the outside of a castle's walls or only affecting a hidden vault somewhere.

Focus: Alter, shrine, statue, or other permanent fixture worth 1000 gp.
