The Radical Crest functions as a +3 [[Dilatantoplastic (3.5e Equipment)|dilatantoplastic]] [[Greatshield (3.5e Equipment)|greatshield]] and grants a total [[SRD:Shield Bonus|shield bonus]] to AC of +6 and [[SRD:Damage Reduction|damage reduction]] 6/piercing.
The Radical Crest has the magical property to let liquids easily glide off of its surface, granting automatic [[SRD:Cover|cover]] against all attacks and effects involving any sort of liquid substance (such as a water spout or a [[SRD:Water Elemental|water elemental]]'s natural attacks) provided the wielder has the appropriate [[SRD:Shield Proficiency|Shield Proficiency]]. The wielder enjoys the [[SRD:Shield Bonus|shield bonus]] as a bonus to [[SRD:Reflex|Reflex]] saves against area effects involving water or any sort of harmful liquid, gaining effective [[SRD:Evasion|evasion]] against such effects. If the wielder already has evasion, it becomes improved evasion against these types of effects instead.
An added effect of all this is that when the shield is placed on the water, it can be used as a surfboard and moreover adheres strongly to the surface of any salt water, granting a movement speed of 60 feet while surfing and a +10 enhancement bonus to [[SRD:Balance Skill|Balance]] checks in order to maintain balance while surfing. It is possible to hustle and run while using a Radical Crest's surf speed.
