===Animal Type===

An [[SRD:Animal Type|animal]] is a living, nonhuman creature, usually a vertebrate with no magical abilities and no innate capacity for language or culture.


An [[SRD:Animal Type|animal]] has the following features (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).
*d8 [[SRD:Hit Dice (Creature Statistic)|Hit Dice]].
*[[SRD:Base Attack Bonus|Base attack bonus]] equal to 3/4 total [[SRD:Hit Dice (Creature Statistic)|Hit Dice]] (as [[SRD:Cleric|cleric]]).
*Good [[SRD:Saving Throw|Fortitude]] and [[SRD:Saving Throw|Reflex]] saves (certain [[SRD:Animal Type|animals]] have different good saves).
*[[SRD:Skill Points|Skill points]] equal to (2 + [[SRD:Intelligence|Int]] modifier, minimum 1) per [[SRD:Hit Dice (Creature Statistic)|Hit Die]], with quadruple [[SRD:Skill Points|skill points]] for the first [[SRD:Hit Dice (Creature Statistic)|Hit Die]].


An [[SRD:Animal Type|animal]] possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).
*[[SRD:Intelligence|Intelligence]] score of 1 or 2 (no creature with an [[SRD:Intelligence|Intelligence]] score of 3 or higher can be an [[SRD:Animal Type|animal]]).
*[[SRD:Low-Light Vision|Low-light vision]].
*Alignment: Always neutral.
*Treasure: None.
*Proficient with its [[SRD:Natural Weapons|natural weapons]] only. A noncombative herbivore uses its [[SRD:Natural Weapon|natural weapons]] as a secondary attack. Such attacks are made with a –5 penalty on the creature’s [[SRD:Attack Roll|attack rolls]], and the [[SRD:Animal Type|animal]] receives only 1/2 its [[SRD:Strength|Strength]] modifier as a damage adjustment.
*Proficient with no armor unless trained for war.
*[[SRD:Animal Type|Animals]] eat, sleep, and breathe.
