Talk:Aasimar-Gr7mm (5e Race)

The +2 Wisdom and +1 Cha was intentional in my initial design before the DMG came. I have left this alone because it is an alternative to the one published. I based this one off of the 3.5 version and decided on my own that +2 Wis was more Aasmir-like than +2 Cha. Gr7mm Bobb (talk) 23:29, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

This is good because it's similar to the DMG Aasimar (DMGp286), and it was created before the VGM trio of Aasimar. But, the differences we have are in the Ability Scores, Celestial Resistance and the Celestial Legacy.

I'm not a big fan of assigned Ability Score bonuses (I'd rather just have it be a +2/+1 to two different stats), but I can see doing +2 Wis / +1 Cha when it comes to porting over from 3.5e. This makes them much better Clerics, but it keeps them in the Charisma Divine Casters still (Celestial Warlock, Divine Soul Sorcerer).

Celestial Resistance has changed though, and I'm not entirely sure why. It's trading a resistance to two different damages for one. I suppose cold damage is potentially more relevant, but I'm not sure on why. I can't say I agree with it.

Celestial Legacy is a change too that I raised my eyebrow at, but I don't think I can complain too much. I'm pretty chuffed that it slots Guiding Bolt into a level 2 slot, but I'm not a fan of giving out Guidance. Guidance is a strong cantrip because of just how spammable it is to get a +d4 on any ability check that people are going to do. I feel like it's one of the stronger cantrips - especially in comparison to Light, for sure.

Ultimately, this is a decent riff on the DMG Aasimar. Just with some questionable design choices that might be questionable only due to my bias.
