It's good enough to be a 8th level stance. It shouldn't be handed out for free to 1st level fighters.

Below High, it's nigh-useless because acting first is not a big deal. At VH, it's uber-borked because initiative is one of the key deciding factors in battle. So it only has viable use in a High game. But then it violates the more-attrition less-rocket-tag dynamic of a High game by being, essentially, a hard counter. In my view, it's not just that it is highly variable with balance point -- it really does not fit into any game at any balance point.
RatedNeutral.png Foxwarrior is neutral on this article and rated it 2 of 4.
Given the decreasing number of rounds per combat as the balance level increases, this would probably actually be better put at Unquantifiable; for a Very High-level character, this gives them a power which needs to be countered with minions or ablative defenses, and for a Low-level character, it's really not interesting, just like most other Low-level feats.

This article makes initiative virtually redundant for the character who takes it.

I like the idea, but... Auto-win for any duel?--Quey 02:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Duels are kind of a degenerate case in D&D anyway. Surgo 02:32, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Not to mention that the existence of this feat in a game would dictate that pretty much any living duelist has it. So then everything is returned to the status quo when two people with it duel. - TG Cid 02:55, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Except many duelist types (High-level, so we're talking martial adepts) are already strapped for feats, which just creates a feat tax on them, which is even worse overall for the game in my opinion. Also, any wizard-type in a VH-level game would take it if this became available to just demolish the opposition with little opening for reprisal. --Ghostwheel 04:19, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
