Balance[edit]

I'm pretty sure this is stronger than my level reduction metamagic feats... Healing can be pretty easy to acquire, so this one might be lacking in drawbacks for people who use it when far from dangerous situations.

Perhaps if it did ability burn, or reduced maximum health for a while, but so long as a wand of cure light wounds deals with it, I don't think it's harsh enough. --Foxwarrior (talk) 12:45, 17 December 2016 (MST)

It's not that balanced for some things but suddenly taking 9d12 damage that bypasses all DR is a risky situation. For most casters, that's a death sentence, unless they have a serious way of jacking up their health. One spell like that (Going with maximum numbers here for simplicity) would be enough to kill a 20th-level Wizard easily, and enough to severely weaken a 20th-level Cleric or Druid. I had intended it to be costly, but not too costly, considering only divine casters ever get spells for dealing with ability damage.
That said, I do think taking a penalty to Constitution equal to twice the spell's unmodified level, or Con damage equal to the spell's unmodified level, is reasonable, as is merely increasing the balance point. Zhenra-Khal (talk) 13:02, 17 December 2016 (MST)
Well, -6 to Constitution is nearly as bad for a level 20 wizard as it is for a level 2 one, so I'd say that if you go with a constitution penalty, it should probably be -2 per 1 level reduction you apply with the feat. And yes, this sort of feat really does fit in well with the Natural Spell, Arcane Thesis, and Divine Metamagic category, so Very High makes sense for pretty much any feat of this type you can imagine. --Foxwarrior (talk) 13:19, 17 December 2016 (MST)
-3/-2 per spell level adjustment and it fades at the rate of 1 point per hour sounds good to me. Zhenra-Khal (talk) 13:31, 17 December 2016 (MST)
I don't much like recovery per hour, since that tends to make people go for the 15-minute work day. I think some sort of ability burn might be better. --Ghostwheel (talk) 17:07, 17 December 2016 (MST)
Alright, fixed.
On a side note, it's funny how the pages I create that I'd really like to hear feedback on go unnoticed, while the ones i thought would go unnoticed get feedback. What a strange world. Zhenra-Khal (talk) 17:32, 17 December 2016 (MST)
