Power Creep[edit]

Isn't giving a stronger version of one of the Cleric's iconic abilities to the Wizard at the same level a bit creepy? --Foxwarrior 02:09, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Better? - MisterSinister 02:12, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, at least the power creep isn't also role infringement now. --Foxwarrior 02:24, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Tarkisflux's statements about hinder are still applicable to this, though. --Foxwarrior 00:08, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh, and you should think about how much this nerfs undetectable alignment: quite a bit. --Foxwarrior 01:15, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Have you actually read that spell recently? I believe the text says 'all forms of divination', which this technically is. It still protects against it, nerfs nothing, and generally is still just as useful as it was even with this spell's existence. I'm honestly not sure what your fucking problem is. - 27.252.91.220 01:28, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
No. Detect evil/etcetera only inform you if someone is of the specified alignment. Thus, an undetectable alignment spell makes it so they can still believe you are any of 6 different alignments, leaving plenty of leeway for believing that you don't have undetectable alignment active. Detect alignment will make them see you as True Neutral, which is much less likely.
And my problem is that I kind of like detect evil how it is. Tricking people is generally more fun than being immune to tricks. --Foxwarrior 01:47, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Is this better, Fox? - MisterSinister 22:34, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I guess I'm willing to stop bothering you about it. --Foxwarrior 18:04, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Footer Confusion[edit]

The footer lists this as a Sorcerer/Wizard spell, while the spell itself is listed as Cleric. --Ganteka Future 06:45, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Holdover from when this was originally a Sor/Wiz spell most likely. Corrected. - Tarkisflux Talk 07:03, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

Tarkis and I were griping about how weird the detect spells are, so we agreed that this would be an opportunity to make them less so. Our thought was to make the aura detected universally applicable (so that clerics and paladins don't need any dumb class feature written in for it) and then to make the aura strength based on the CR/caster level of the source proportional to your own. Example: CR-6 and less = Faint, up to CR-2 = Weak, up to CR+2 = Moderate, up to CR+6=Strong, over that = Overwhelming. Or something like that, so there's at least some consistency in its use as an encounter difficulty measurement. - TG Cid 05:01, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

The idea would be to rewrite this spell to select 1 alignment (except neutral) at casting, and then get that sort of information back from it. If there was a strong desire to make it less good as a single cast CR detector (which I think I'm ok with clerics being), could also make creatures who are neutral on the detected axis respond as if they were CR-4 less than a creature who was actually of the alignment detected for. So if you're detecting evil, you get LN, N, and CN creatures as "sort of evil" or whatever. - Tarkisflux Talk 05:11, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Bump. - Tarkisflux Talk 05:55, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
I'm fine with that, actually. I'm not sure that having neutral detect as 'sort of x' makes a lot of sense, though, since neutrality is a choice that you could make. So I'll implement that exactly. - MisterSinister (talk) 20:50, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
