Limitless[edit]

"Which templates are allowed to be added by this spell may be left to the discretion of the DM."

Isn't it better to put some limit on this? Scale it, like "any half-template with an LA up to X + 1 per 4 CL" or something. Otherwise... well, I'm sure I could find some sort of Half-Paragon, Half-God, Half-Tarrasque thing floating around. -- Eiji-kun 13:05, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

I think the amount of CR it increases by is a fairer measure than LA, which is rather arbitrary at least as far as the SRD is concerned. Since it's a 5th level spell, the CR adjustment of templates remains fairly constant, and that most if not all of the SRD "half-creatures" are capped at CR/LA +4, I think imposing a hard cap of +4 is fair. It also prevents the wild half-tarrasque idea, at least assuming that would have to be in bounds with the SRD put down. I hope this is an adequate solution. - TG Cid 05:43, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Would this allow the half-golem template to be used? A druid with half-clay golem mode activated on top of wild shape along with some other stat boosters is just terrifying.Fluffykittens (talk) 07:08, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
You should also probably add that only one instance of evince lineage can be active at a time, because the stat increases granted from templates are untyped, leading to stupidly high modifiers.Fluffykittens (talk) 19:24, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Technically already covered in that you can't stack the same spell effect with each other, but it wouldn't hurt to repeat it. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 20:18, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Right, but someone might try to argue that applying two different templates is applying two different "effects", since templates are not mechanically identical.Fluffykittens (talk) 20:36, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Added non-stacking clause for sake of clarification. - TG Cid (talk) 07:32, 19 May 2018 (MDT)

Duration[edit]

I think the duration of this might be a bit too high. It's good enough that it can let people run around with Half-whatever permanently, thanks to Extend Spell. 10 minutes/level is probably more fair. Surgo 16:35, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Done and done. - TG Cid 22:56, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

SLAs[edit]

You might want to specifically not grant or cap SLAs from the selected type. Otherwise you can cast it and gain a couple of SLAs with a higher level than this slot at higher HD (half fiend gives you 1/day blasphemy and destruction for example), and that's weird. A quick look didn't find other things to cap, but if you wanted to make sure people didn't get inappropriately good stuff out of it you could specify that the lineage granted abilities from the template as if the target had no more than 9 or 10 HD. - Tarkisflux Talk 16:05, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Done, six years on. - TG Cid (talk) 07:32, 19 May 2018 (MDT)
