I do believe I want to use this.

Good monster. Description and fluff are appealing.

A few thoughts[edit]

It's an interesting creature, and I always find it hard to think of good names for my own creatures so it's doubly interesting in that regard. That said, there are a few things that bother me just a little bit.

  • The Black Blood poison. I would really suggest to take out the nauseating effect, though, since it effectively makes it impossible for a poisoned creature to attack or cast spells or concentrate on anything, making it a save or suck kinda thing that makes this creature a lot less interesting to fight than it could otherwise be. If you want to mess with the action economy, I would make it a 50% chance of losing an action instead, so you at least have a chance to contribute to the battle after being poisoned.
  • A monster's save DCs are normally modified by half its HD. With these stats, the poison would become DC 23 and the frightening growl DC 25. Which is good, because 16 and 18 would be far too low for a CR 13.
  • Spell resistance scaling should keep up with caster level. 10 + HD is fine. As it is now, a level-appropriate caster with the spell penetration feats literally cannot fail at bypassing this thing's SR.
  • Blindsense has no range. A creature either has it or it doesn't.

Just my 5 cents. --Sulacu (talk) 07:05, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Nitpick, Blindsense does indeed have range. Usually 60 ft actually, check the bat as proof. Everything else is correct. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 07:19, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks to you both; hopefully it's fixed now. I made this back before I really knew what I was doing, and have no recollection of why I made the save DCs so low. Spanambula (talk) 08:36, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
