CR 1[edit]

Are you sure? Yeah the +1s aren't impressive, but some of the other stuff is pretty beefy. Also noted as CR but no LA, indicating PCs can't actually get this. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 14:46, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

CR is a subjective thing, especially considering the creatures that have this template are NPCs with a lot of class levels. I don't buy that a level 4 character is CR 4, i.e. a proper challenge for an ECL 4 party, so boosting the CR by +1 seems okay. The arbitrariness comes in when you start homebrewing, really. But as far as it goes, Vinheim, White Knight of Bloom has an appropriate challenge rating. --Sulacu (talk) 13:04, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
That's not what CR means. CR means that a party of that level should have no trouble with the encounter when facing a single creature of that CR, while expending 20-25% of their daily resources. It's not meant to be particularly challenging or threatening to a party from what the CR rules actually say. If specific monsters do/don't follow those guidelines... that's something else.
Note, for example, that a CR X "monster" with only PC levels and no racial HD tends to have an elite array (+1 CR, which makes for the fractional CR of the race) and much less gold than most PCs. It is significantly weaker than one of the PCs whose level is equal to it. --Ghostwheel (talk) 13:23, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
