Could use a little bit of touching up, but I like it. I agree that Ioun blast needs nerfing a bit, but you know what? This is good enough to use in my campaign(s).

So, conceptually, I like the class, and the flavor is easy to follow and work with, but, mechanically, I can't see this class being taken and not being abused. Even if you ignore the blast that deals 500d6+500 damage with a save for half, the class gives you +2 to each ability score and immunity to all non-epic spells. I don't think this class should be available.

Nice concept but broken: Ioun Blast needs nerfing

Iuon Blast[edit]

A quick analysis reveals Ubergeek to be correct, only in the sense that you could have NI iuon stones given NI money, and then NI damage. It needs a cap, probably based on CL, and it should be fine. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 00:15, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

You don't even need that much; a burned out Ioun stone is only 25 GP (if I recall correctly), and can be used for Ioun Blast. WBL for a level 10 character (minimum for level 10 Ioun Master without cheese) is 49k. You already have enough Ioun Stones (max is 1960, but it would likely be much less than that). --Undead_Knave (talk) 00:26, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

had put this in the wrong page:

This is broken... As much as I like the concept there is no way I should be able to make a lvl 6 character that can hit any AC for 5D6 + crit rolls 8x a day! (2500 gp buys 100 dull gray ioun stones)

As written a lvl6 build can get 100 dull gray iuons for 2500gp(after rereading yet again it looks like an instant hit as a spell since there is no save vs a combat attack) and do 100d6+100 dmg and a high lvl could buy 100 Lavender and greens to do 500d6+100 5+bonus times per day for the ioun blast. Even if you take it as an attack roll for each that allows ANY lvl5 master to hit for 5d6+5 vs ANY AC minimum for the cost of 2500gp - seriously broken!

I recommend nerfing the blast to 1/2 character lvl dice and the Lavender and green to the master's choice of which energy damage per attack. If they are MEANT to be rolled attacks instead of magic missiles effectively (which i originally assumed do to the attacks per round clause in Ioun attack) the stones should be +1/+2/+3 at lvls 1/3/5 respectively - still not overpowered but not useless either.

This actually begs to be split into 2 classes: Mage and Archer, with the attacks switched for archery skills with the stones as "arrows" culminating with blast replaced with arrow storm.

About the iuon familiar...why not just use the item familiar rules? Ubergeek63 (talk)
Here we go again with balance... unlocks...or in other words stacks
clear stone sustains without food or drink... sustains without breathing .... sustains without sleep (i would have reversed these) ... ok
lvl6 with rose and deep red 1+/+2/+3 to AC insight and +2/+3/+4 to dex ... AC24 using no body slots and not circling... 20K for ring bracers and amulet +2 and you can have a wizard at AC30! Ubergeek63 (talk) 10:50, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
As noted above, as this pertains to a specific article it would be best discussed on the talk page of said article. As for wizards abusing things, removing the need for food/air/sleep or getting some AC bonuses is hardly the most cheesy thing I have ever heard of when a cleric can use greater consumptive field to murder an entire city and get himself to 1000 Strength. Not to mention that the aforementioned spell is free while these ioun stone things require you to spend a considerably amount of money and take levels in a prestige class. - TG Cid (talk) 20:53, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
