Icky, weird, wonderful. They sound like they'd make wonderful Cryptics.

I would suggest changing ring slots to 4, same as an aboleth, unless tendrils are limited to 2 (it wasn't clear). Perhaps starting at 2 tendrils and advancing to 4 with greater HD, or as a racial paragon class perk. Actually, a beholder-aboleth amalgam would be a great rumor to spread about them, just the thing a mad wizard might create; and could lead to more options on that racial paragon class. I admit that when I first read the race, before it stuck that the tendrils were on the underside, I had visions of the Kree supreme leader from Marvel comics. I thought of it, but held off out of fear that I was brushing too strong for LA 0 as is. The scaling SLA is potentially quite strong. What do you think? Am I too strong at the moment to give the extra boon of additional ring slots? -- Eiji-kun (talk) 18:12, 9 September 2017 (MDT)
The SLA is strong, but its has to be grown into real strength; also it is limited to 6th level spells at 20th, which while powerful aren't near the top tier of spells for that level. Four magic item slots are removed. I think you would be fine having the additional ring slots; even then you would still have a loss of two slots to balance. They aren't really going to be great at any physical melee classes, they will likely lean towards caster classes, and at 20th the SLA will likely be used for utility or emergency. Did some thinking and I believe I agree. Four rings it is. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 22:24, 9 September 2017 (MDT)
