Noice, the enchantment school needs this kind of things

Moderate

The spell is interesting but I doubt it's moderate. It's a save or lose vs casters, and in that respect it is on even level with Silence (which is better because it can be a no save or lose, and has stealth and defense applications which this doesn't). In exchange for silence's boons, you get a pretty good 5d8 damage. It's a swift action, which is a bit nuts. I would have given it High level without the swift, with swift... well... it's not Moderate that's for sure. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 10:42, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Silence also has a larger range and lasts 10x as long, so there are some additional drops happening on that effect side. The damage is no-save and scales twice as fast as most blasting spells at this level, but it's also single target so that's probably fine for a Moderate. But a Moderate + debuff is not really a Moderate anymore, and a swift action cast really isn't. I think it's a decent, if focused on spellcaster, High balance spell that would work better with a standard action cast. - Tarkisflux Talk 18:33, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Good opinions, great views and even suggestions :D it's not an automatic loss, but i give you it will "screw over" 80-90% of spellcasters. I've made the changes advised (agreeing completely)... thanks for the look-over.
The shorter range, shorter duration was intentional, saving vs damage was something i did a heads or tales on, still hoping for some feedback on that... it's unfortunately completely spellcaster-based because the origin is a computer game which all characters have some spellcasting, that's unavoidable. considering the power of darkbolt i have to wonder... Thanks again! --Snafusam (talk) 16:45, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Almost completely combat limited reduces it's application ability a lot...--Snafusam (talk) 07:03, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Cool. Nitpick, it says Will partial, but doesn't describe the partial. I presume it's half damage and negates the silencing. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 07:25, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Fluff-Effect Mismatch[edit]

How could Nicholas not notice that he'd just had a spell cast on him if he's just been hit with a sound that's as strong as several swords? --Foxwarrior (talk) 20:46, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

I have to agree with Nicholas stupidity; however my own must be greater for i fail to find a better fluff speech. care to speak a joke?--Snafusam (talk) 07:27, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Maybe something about the air being knocked from his lungs? - Tarkisflux Talk 21:15, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
If it becomes a physical effect then it will become (or add) a fortitude effect which isn't what this should be (maybe a different spell, but not this one) and I'd like to avoid any air-distortion (vibration/thinning/thickening/ect.) effects so that crosses out two possibilities. should be something along the lines of "losing the ability to speak" or "his vocal cords quit responding to his brain".--Snafusam (talk) 08:06, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
How do you fluff up the sonic damage, if not as 'physical'? And since the sonic damage doesn't allow a save, there's no need to change this to / add a Fort save. - Tarkisflux Talk 17:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps the "sonic" damage itself is the problem, and this should be an mind-effecting spell... that would change it's properties to enchantment and basic magic damage.--Snafusam (talk) 10:52, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
