Talk:Puppy Dog Eyes (3.5e Feat)

Is there a reason you get a +4 bonus and a -2 DC? It would make more sense to just say that you get a +6 circumstance bonus or if you don't want it typed you could just reduce the DC by 6. Also that is a lot of rolling for a flavorful ability. I am guessing that this is meant to be a way of staying away from high balance but three extra rolls may be more "annoying" than "cute". It may streamline it if when you fail an opposed charisma biased check by 6 or less the opposing creature/creatures must make a will save or suffer a penalty equal to your charisma modifier for a number rounds equal to your HD + Charisma Modifier. I also see no reason why only a canine creature can use this ability or that you would need any other prerequisites. If you don't have skills or charisma it doesn't do anything so why not let the dragon say "Pwetty Pwees don't take my tweasure"? Xaiviar (talk) 15:07, 23 February 2017 (MST)

Fair point. That didn't occur to me. I'll rework it a bit. Maybe I can remove the last Will save and just say that they can resist the urge to give in but will feel badly about it, suffering the penalty you mentioned. Originally I wrote it as if they fail the save when Puppy Dog Eyes is used, they must immediately give you what you want, but I thought that that sounded a bit too powerful, so I changed it. As for the canine creature requirement, it's meant to represent the look in a dog's eyes when they beg. Other creatures (like cat-folk and other animal-like humanoids) could probably benefit from it, but I doubt a dragon would lower itself to making cutesy googily eyes at a humanoid. --Halloweenman33 21:59, 23 February 2017 (CST)
What I said on Talk:Mighty Jaws (3.5e Feat) about the pre-reqs also applies here. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 04:21, 24 February 2017 (MST)
That pretty much was the original intention, although I know that there are a couple of other homebrew dog-like races on here (or is that the other wiki? there seem to be 2) and I thought I'd give anybody using them the option to apply Puppy Dog Eyes as well. --Halloweenman33 10:49, 24 February 2017 (CST)
You want Monstrous instead of your current pre-reqs then, definitely. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 14:47, 24 February 2017 (MST)

I think I'll keep it as a Canin Racial Feat. I came up with a separate feat called Honorary Canin that will allow for other Humanoids and Monstrous Humanoids to take it. --Halloweenman33 15:50, 24 February 2017 (CST)
