Talk:Ruk (3.5e Race)

Discussion[edit]
I'm sorry but I am really failing to see how this is LA +0, 2 +4's, a +2 and only given 2 -2's, on top of the heaping amounts of special abilities and scaling resistance. This, imo, as written should not be allowed as a PC unless in a VERY high powered campaign —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.125.157.65 (talk • contribs) at
- It's already got two racial HD, which are much more effective than LA for the purposes of creating so-called monster characters. As such, a 1st level character of this race is still effectively a level 3 character, which makes all the bonuses reasonable given what else you could get for those two levels as a wizard or cleric. LA on top of that would just set the race so far behind that no one would ever play it. - TG Cid (talk) 07:58, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
- Small addendum to that. You can play races with racial hit dice out-of-the-box. In this case, with no class levels you could be an ECL 2 character ruk. Your racial levels and the added racial features are what you get instead of class levels and class features, you just can't play a ruk earlier than being a 2nd level character. Wizards of the Coast did a poor job conveying this idea (and purposely broke the rules of game balance when they tried, which is sad). Hopefully this clears some things up. --Ganteka Future (talk) 18:35, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
