Discussion[edit]

I'm sorry but I am really failing to see how this is LA +0, 2 +4's, a +2 and only given 2 -2's, on top of the heaping amounts of special abilities and scaling resistance. This, imo, as written should not be allowed as a PC unless in a VERY high powered campaign —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.125.157.65 (talkcontribs) at

It's already got two racial HD, which are much more effective than LA for the purposes of creating so-called monster characters. As such, a 1st level character of this race is still effectively a level 3 character, which makes all the bonuses reasonable given what else you could get for those two levels as a wizard or cleric. LA on top of that would just set the race so far behind that no one would ever play it. - TG Cid (talk) 07:58, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
Small addendum to that. You can play races with racial hit dice out-of-the-box. In this case, with no class levels you could be an ECL 2 character ruk. Your racial levels and the added racial features are what you get instead of class levels and class features, you just can't play a ruk earlier than being a 2nd level character. Wizards of the Coast did a poor job conveying this idea (and purposely broke the rules of game balance when they tried, which is sad). Hopefully this clears some things up. --Ganteka Future (talk) 18:35, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
