Don't see the reason why of this sword. Usually longsword are more suited fot slashing, though there are some longsword models, such as the "Schweizerdegen", that are more oriented to thrust... but they remain a longsword and linked to the nature of a longsword, as well as every weapon that has a "longsword" soul. Even the "spada da filo" is moro similar to a longsword than to a rapier in general, for sure! This weapon, is slashing, ok, but the longsowrd has also a piercing nature, and only a cleave-like weapon can deliver a powerful 2d4 that way!

Good fluff and crunch, though the sword makes me think it should be martial, fluffwise. Even so, a 2d4 high crit weapon is pretty good.

History[edit]

Surely the best type of example of a Spatha would be its Roman inception? It's what most people would think of. Viking blades, while related, are more commonly classed as a type of broadsword.--Fathirian Hound 09:20, May 29, 2010 (UTC)
