The Cloven Soul[edit]

The punished spirit of an evil king, the cloven soul grants you the power to split into two while leaving your body behind.

Level: 8th

Binding DC: 30

Special Requirement: No

Legend[edit]

The ancient king Glyphein once ruled over his land with an iron fist, installing an empire of law which was as safe as it was brutal. He took the land into an era of peace and prosperity by force, using his enchanted axe worldrender to defeat his opponents. Between the brutal cutting nature of his weapon, his stables filled with riding boars, and his perchance to follow the Rule of Two, which had him split things down into black or white groups in many aspects of life, he began to be known as the Cloven King. It was a kingdom which would make Asmodeus proud.

Of course, nothing lasts forever. Rebellion formed and boiled over, and King Glyphein was challenged by those who'd dare commit the greatest sin and say that things came in shades of gray, that there were more than merely two choices, and those who rejected his kingdom of brutality. After a long battle and many losses, Glyphein finally fell prey to petrification and was turned into a statue of stone. The populace began to wonder how they should deal with the statue, but one hero who had been hurt greatly by the king was filled with too much rage. Taking up the king's own axe, he cut the statue clean in twain. And again. And again. And again. Each blow cut each piece perfectly in half, until the king was but atoms. And those were also cut. And further. And further.

It's not certain when the king's exterminator ceased, but by the time he did, the king was obliterated so thoroughly that not even his shattered soul could come back together.

Manifestation[edit]

The sign splits in half as a large axe falls upon it out of nowhere. The axe's impact forms a crack in the ground, from which axe and sign fall through, revealing the horrified statue of an elderly man in dreadful spiked armor, eyes covered. The statue says nothing, but when the pact is made, the ground closes back up and you find yourself with a strange feeling of sensory overload.

Sign[edit]

You appear highly contrasted, and your colors are faded to almost grayscale, making you almost black and white in appearance. A thin spiky crown is visible on your forehead, blending in with whatever headgear you possess.

Influence[edit]

You see things only in black or white, figuratively. Evil is pure evil, good is pure good. Though you do not change your alignment, you must treat things with all the intensity of handling extremes.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Aura of Lawful Evil[edit]

While bound to the cloven soul, you radiate law and evil as a cleric of your level.

Boar Mount[edit]

You can summon a riding boar as the summon mount ability of the paladin, as if you were a paladin of your level. However, any references to good are switched to evil.

Soul Splitter[edit]

In memory of the king's death, you can duplicate the demise with your own body and soul. As a standard action, you can petrify your body as if flesh to stone, and two dopplegangers of yourself appear in the closest spaces by you. These dopplegangers have all your abilities, but effectively suffer from 2 negative levels (but do not reduce hit points or lose spells), and only have half your hit points. Your items are duplicated, but limited use abilities such as spellcasting, cooldown abilities, and limited use items such as potions are taken from both of your dopplegangers when used, and cooldown times are shared. You may act as you see fit, but you are limited in range to your original statue body. If you move more than 100 ft from your petrified form, this ability ends and you are dazed for 1 round.

If one or both of your dopplegangers die, the effect immediately ends and your body un-petrifies, with you taking as much non-lethal damage as your doppleganger's maximum hit points and dazing you for 1 round. If your statue form is destroyed, you die for real. As a statue, you have your normal hit points but hardness 8, and are subject to sunder attacks (which may kill you instantly).

You can end soul splitter as a standard action, though you are still dazed for 1 round, and any damage you took on your dopplegangers is transferred over as non-lethal damage.

Worldrender[edit]

You can summon a powerful +5 vorpal greataxe to your hands as a move action. You are proficient in this weapon. Rather than remove the head, worldrender splits things evenly in two. It also has its vorpal function on unattended non-magical objects up to Large size, cutting them in two up to 5 ft deep. Worldrender vanishes if it leaves your hands for more than 1 round.
