Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the pugilist brave fighter.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A pugilist brave fighter is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with light armor, but not shields.

Flurry of Blows (Ex): When unarmored or in light armor, a pugilist brave fighter may strike with a flurry of blows at the expense of accuracy. When doing so, he may make one extra attack in a round at his highest base attack bonus, but this attack takes a –2 penalty, as does each other attack made that round. The resulting modified base attack bonuses are shown in the Flurry of Blows Attack Bonus column on Table: The Pugilist Brave Fighter. This penalty applies for 1 round, so it also affects attacks of opportunity the pugilist brave fighter might make before her next action. When a pugilist brave fighter reaches 10th level, the penalty lessens to –1, and at 20th level it disappears. At 6th, 11th, and 16th levels, the pugilist brave fighter receives another attack at her highest attack bonus in addition to her normal attacks. These attacks do not stack with the extra attack granted by haste, but it can combine with Two Weapon Fighting. A pugilist brave fighter must use a full attack action to strike with a flurry of blows.

When using flurry of blows, a pugilist brave fighter may attack only with unarmed strikes or with special monk weapons (kama, nunchaku, quarterstaff, sai, shuriken, and siangham) or any light weapon she is proficient in. He may attack with unarmed strikes and special monk weapons interchangeably as desired. When using weapons as part of a flurry of blows, a pugilist brave fighter applies his Strength bonus (not Str bonus × 1-1/2 or ×1/2) to his damage rolls for all successful attacks, whether he wields a weapon in one or both hands. The pugilist brave fighter can’t use any weapon other than a special monk weapon or light weapon he is proficient in as part of a flurry of blows.

In the case of the quarterstaff, each end counts as a separate weapon for the purpose of using the flurry of blows ability. Even though the quarterstaff requires two hands to use, a pugilist brave fighter may still intersperse unarmed strikes with quarterstaff strikes, assuming that he has enough attacks in her flurry of blows routine to do so.

Masterwork Body: At 1st level, a pugilist brave fighter gains the Masterwork Body feat.

Pugilism: At 1st level, a pugilist brave fighter gains Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. A pugilist brave fighter’s attacks may be with either fist interchangeably or even from elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a pugilist brave fighter may even make unarmed strikes with his hands full. There is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a pugilist brave fighter striking unarmed. A pugilist brave fighter may thus apply his full Strength bonus on damage rolls for all his unarmed strikes.

Usually a pugilist brave fighter’s unarmed strikes deal lethal damage, but he can choose to deal nonlethal damage instead with no penalty on his attack roll. He has the same choice to deal lethal or nonlethal damage while grappling.

A pugilist brave fighter’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.

A pugilist brave fighter also deals more damage with his unarmed strikes than a normal person would, as shown on Table: The Pugilist Brave. The unarmed damage on Table: The Pugilist Brave is for Medium pugilist brave fighters. A Small pugilist brave fighter deals less damage than the amount given there with his unarmed attacks, while a Large pugilist brave fighter deals more damage; see Table: Pugilist Brave Fighter Unarmed Damage by Size.

A pugilist brave fighter may use any of his 'monk' abilities in light armor. He stacks his pugilist brave fighter level with any monk level he may have to determine the power of such abilities.

Limited Bonus Feat: At 2nd level, a pugilist brave fighter gets a bonus [Fighter] feat which improves or interacts with his unarmed strike (Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike) would count but not Power Attack) or his ability to fight unarmored. Additionally, he may also select bonus feats which affect his Stunning Fist class feature even if they do not have the [Fighter] tag. The pugilist brave fighter gains an additional limited bonus feat at 4th level and every two levels thereafter (6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 20th). A pugilist brave fighter must still meet all prerequisites for a bonus feat, including ability score and base attack bonus minimums.

Whenever the pugilist brave fighter levels up, he may choose to swap out any and all of the bonus feats granted by this class. Feats must retain their pre-requisites as normal, but he is not locked in his choices forever. He may also choose to do this after 24 hours of training.

Ability Increaser: A 2nd level or higher pugilist brave fighter can trade out obtaining a limited bonus feat for a +1 bonus to two ability scores of his choice, as long as it is not placed in his highest ability score. If all his ability scores are the same, he can place it in any score. For example, a brave fighter with Str 18, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 13, Wis 10, and Cha 8 can apply his bonuses to any score except Strength.

If a pugilist brave fighter has traded a limited bonus feat out for an ability increase he cannot trade this "feat" out later as above. The ability increase is permanent.

Stunning Fist: A 2nd level pugilist brave fighter gains Stunning Fist as a bonus feat and counts as a monk while using it. He count his fighter level as his monk level for the purpose of determining the effectiveness of his stunning fist, as prerequisites for feats which improve stunning feat and for the number of uses his stunning fist has per day. He may use his Strength or Dexterity instead of Wisdom to determine the DC of his stunning fist.

Armor Mastery (Ex): Starting at 3rd level, a brave fighter learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1/3rd his class level (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1/3rd his class level. In addition, a pugilist brave fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor.

At 7th level, a pugilist brave fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor, and may use evasion and tumble in all armors.

Buff Body: At 3rd level, a pugilist brave fighter receives Buff Body as a bonus feat.

Craftsman: A 3rd level pugilist brave fighter gains Mundane Crafter (Craft Magic Arms & Armor) as a bonus feat. He does not need to qualify for this.

Weapon Mastery (Ex): At 5th level a pugilist brave fighter applies the effect of many weapon specific feats (such as Weapon Focus) to all weapons he is proficient with, and the numerical bonuses are increased by +50% for the weapon he has focus in. For example, a pugilist brave fighter with Weapon Focus (longsword) and Greater Weapon Focus (longsword) would gain +3 to attack with longswords, and +2 attack with anything else.

At 9th level, a pugilist brave fighter can change what his weapon specific feats apply to as a full-round action, the bonuses for the weapon are doubled for the weapon he has focus in, and +50% for every other weapon. For example, the pugilist brave fighter gains +4 from Weapon Focus (longsword) and Greater Weapon Focus (longsword), while he gets +3 with anything else.

Rapid Attack (Ex): At 6th level, a pugilist brave fighter can make one of his iterative attacks as well as his normal attack in the same standard action. Effectively it grants them pounce, though limited to only one of his iterative attacks.

At 11th, and again at 16th, a pugilist brave fighter receives another iterative attack he may make on a standard action. A single classed pugilist brave fighter can always make a full attack as a standard action as his BAB matches up when rapid attacks are gained.

Bounded Accuracy (Ex): Pugilist brave fighters of 11th level can make multiple attacks with minimal losses. His iterative attacks never go lower than -5. Thus a BAB +10 attack pattern would be +11/+6/+6, rather than +11/+6/+1.

Damage Reduction (Ex): A level 13th pugilist brave fighter gains DR 5/— as long as he is not helpless or immobilized. It represents defending against attacks with parries, blocks, and other fighting techniques which help reduce otherwise fatal blows.

At 17th level, a pugilist brave fighter's DR rises to DR 10/—.

Die Harder (Ex): A 15th level pugilist brave fighter is hard to take down. He may delay any negative effect for 1 round, up to and including dying from spells or hit point loss. If he gains an effect which counteracts the negative effect, it may be removed before it comes into play. For example, a pugilist brave fighter is reduced to –30 hp, but receives healing to bring him back to positive numbers before the end of his next turn, and so he does not die.

At 19th level, he may delay effects up to 3 rounds.

Legendary (Ex): A 20th level pugilist brave fighter is a thing of legend. All his equipment is considered artifacts while it is in his possession, rendering it immune to being destroyed or suppressed. He gains DR 15/– and Fast Healing 10 as well, and if he is ever killed he will be reborn after a year and a day in a random location on his home plane, as if subject to reincarnate, as long as his soul is intact. If he is restored to life before that, it costs no XP or GP, and causes no negative levels or Constitution loss.
